Hmmn, they’d have to win for that to happen. cgt is just government theft. I’m fine with higher direct taxation as indirect taxes impact on low earners but as someone who’s paid hefty chunks on successful investments, I haven’t seen the government offer to pay me when I lose on them. Transactional taxes suck... Disincentivises investment, restricts markets. Fewer transactions, less revenue to be distributed.
Stop it, 20 minutes !!!, to a large extent I agree with you. The nuclear accidents that have happened have been serious and whether it has been press hype, association with nuclear weapons or genuine concern I am not going to debate, both have lead to public concern and deaths. The ultimate question you would have to ask of the population, accepting that you would have to provide honest data, would you have one built close to you? I've toured nuclear power stations, I've visited Sellafield and so far I have to say I'm fine but if you ask people, even people who are ok with the idea of nuclear power the question they tend to prefer these facilities to be built elsewhere. With the back of an envelope calculation the UK needs about 40 GW of electrical production. It currently has about 9 GW of nuclear production. A shortfall of about 31GW or 25x1200MW nuclear reactors if the entire production was to go nuclear. A lot of new sites would be needed and suitable transmission grids installed. This isn't an impossible number or cost though but because of the need for lots of water a number of coastal sites could be impacted. The risk of accident and increase in waste production would also have to be considered. I don't think nuclear is ultimately the answer and like Milky I agree it is a possible quick fix with risks.
Yes, I was having a bit of fun with my comments, the Labour manifesto illustrates what’s wrong with them, I too am fine with higher income tax on higher earners, it’s when they start bringing in taxes to shape people’s behaviour I have a problem. Like the extra property tax on second homes, which taxes people who choose to invest in property but does not tax people who invest in other assets.
I'm trying to work out if he's from Oz, Harrogate or Bermondsey After all, he's more concerned with what's going on in the UK than down under
I live in Oz and I wouldn't say concern is quite the word I would use, amused perhaps comes closer or perhaps pissing myself laughing at how you all seem to be up yourself and not able to see when you are onto a good thing. Hey but I suppose that's poms for you, always want something to whinge about?
yup, a manifesto to keep a few students happy... and appeal to those in poverty. It doesn’t exactly resonate with the middle ground (other than the usual tax the rich, pick on landlords)... which ultimately is where every election is won or lost. As for nationalisation? Anyone old enough can still remember what a disaster it generally was in terms of service and productivity. I think something pitched at bringing in a new public private partnership might resonate. ’Nationalise everything’ just keeps his buddies in the unions salivating and plays to the red ted socialists. They’ll vote labour anyway. Nothing here for the swing voter I can see. Bunch of clowns. Its like they want to be a pressure group not a viable Candidate for government. Any opposition that can’t win an election against the collection of cowboys running the tories at the moment... and they won’t, should have the decency to f*ck off into the sunset. Clowns to the left of me, jokers to the right,
In this election for PM you can choose from: Amoral liar Marxist fool who thinks it’s 1970 Inconsequential lightweights of various parties How can you think the political class have let down the country? Spoilt for choice, I call it.
....who wants to be prime minister, but can't articulate why, or what he believes or cares about... like some pubescent teenager who wants to go on x-factor to be famous To be fair, we all hark back to our heyday. Jezza probably has warm fuzzy memories of walks in the sun... dreaming of a revolution... hand in hand with Diane.. before... no stop it milky, you can't unthink it. We should just chuck them all in a ufc cage...last man/woman standing gets the gig
Or it could be you're just another Aussie knob talking **** about something you know fook all about. Who knows, time will tell.
[QUOTE="milkyboy, post: We should just chuck them all in a ufc cage...last man/woman standing gets the gig[/QUOTE] Sh*t no, Milky, that would mean you'd be left with Dianne Abbott. You don;t think the other two have to balls to face up to her, do you?
C'mon I haven't had a go about brexit or who you should vote for in a long while. I've been having a conversation about green house gases, nuclear power stations etc. As we all share the same planet I think I should be allowed to discuss the environment, or is the environment a specially British thing too like queuing, warm beer, men dancing and waving their hankies around, small houses and crap food and therefore just one more thing that you lot have managed to screw up all by yourself?
