So this funeral on Friday, what;s the correct dress code?

I was just gonna wear shoes (<yikes>) black trousers, black shirt thing, and a coat.

Do you wear a suit to these thing? thought that was more for weddings and ****.

So what do you wear to each occasion?

    anyone done something different?

I wear traditional Muslim attire to most Muslim funerals...it’s not a strict rule however and I have worn my normal garments to many a funeral.

Been to a few Christian funerals and I’ve just worn a black shirt, trousers and shiny black shoes and whatever jacket the weather has prompted me to wear.

I think a big black coat looks better than a suit jacket for these occasions anyway

Had my Nan’s funeral on Monday, wore a black shirt, tie, trousers and jumper. Often thought all black attire is smart.

A lot now seem to reject the black attire thing as it’s depressing. I went to a wake last year where the deceased asked us to wear something pink and dress casually so I wore jeans, a shirt, a jacket and a huge pink rose.

She was young though and she wanted people to celebrate her life.

There’s no right answer unless you’re given specifics.

Think I went in a white shirt, black tie and black trousers like you to my parents funerals. I wouldn’t worry too much - just keep it conservative.

Though if you really want to reflect a sense of sadness and loss you could wear your Sunderland shirt.

Black shirt and tie? Not sure that's supposed to be standard funeral wear, it's a dreadful look in any circumstances.

Black tie with white shirt would ordinarily be perfectly alright.

Buried my dad earlier this year. Dark charcoal suit, white shirt, dark grey tie, black shoes was fine. Had a grey top coat.

I don't think anyone would expect a person to spend a lot of money to dress for their funeral though.

My dad always said he didn't want everybody dressed in black for his funeral, so I wore an indigo blue suit, blue tie and tan brogues.

Probably get more wear out of a blue suit than a black one in the long run too.

I only wear a suit for a family funeral.

The last couple of non family funerals I've been too lots of folk have turned up in normal every day clothes or even in their work clothes.

It's not about what you wear, it's making the effort to turn up and showing your respect.

Your be fine mate. Although like Chief, I'd go for a black tie with white shirt. Don't worry about a jacket, coat is fine, especially this time of year.

I have a black suit which is what I wear to funerals, usually with a white shirt and black tie.

Sorry to hear about your Nan buddy <rose>

gone traditional, white shirt black tie, dark strides, black pointy ****ty shoes, and a lightweight black firetrap jacket.

way out of my comfort zone being dressed like this. i hate wearing a tie.
