Good morning all from a cool and damp Weston-super-Mare!

Have a good day, the main problem I have is getting used to wearing a catheter.
I'm sure it will be fine when I get used to it <ok>

Morning all. Glad to see that life has returned to normal with our early morning report on the weather from W-S-M. It is damp and not very warm here, and I have a lot to do in preparation for my trip across the water this weekend. Hope all went well for Mme Fez yesterday, and none of us suffer from the floods. Enjoy your day. <ok>

    Good afternoon all,
Mrs Fez' visit went as well as could reasonably be expected in terms of diagnosis and longer term prognosis, the caveat being that they get the surgery done in time - and therein lies the difficulty.
There are only a couple of surgeons in the country who can perform the required operation and operating theatre and team availability is stretched beyond the recommended waiting times. We have a provisional date but it is beyond the cusp of the threshold which is a worry. Furthermore if she is off sick for too long she may well lose her contracting position, already being signed off (one simply doesn't do her kind of work with this hanging over her) and not that long ago successfully negotiated a whopping pay rise as well. All by the by and all efforts now are focused on making sure she's fit for surgery in case of a cancellation.

To mark the first anniversary of the protest movement the gilets jaunes are planning for tens of thousands of angry French protesters to blockade rural roundabouts this weekend. Unions are also planning a nationwide strike soon as 70% of French people feel the yellow vest movement is justified.

Best if you leave really early.

I was just warning you of the chaos planned for this weekend. Try to avoid roundabouts.

That sound horrendous Dave, but pleased that it is sorted. 12 weeks doesn't seem fun. I hope the radiotherapy goes will with minimal after effects. We are all rooting for you.

Sorry to hear all this Fez but lets hope that delay does not disadvantage the prognosis and with luck a cancellation will pop up. Is going private an option? I do sometimes think that taking a substantial cash hit would be worth it to get something serious sorted. Of course I appreciate not everyone has the funds.

Fez doesn't go in for prayers Dave, militant atheist as he is. Nonetheless, like it or not, he has them from me as well - as you do as well.

It's the availability of the skillset. A surgeon we have but the op requires a specialist radiographer amongst others. There's only couple of teams in the country that can do this. Obviously I object on principle to paying for this "twice" but cutting my nose off to spite my face is not ever an option. Money from our pov isn't the issue and the enquiry was made; lack of investment in the NHS most certainly is.

Whilst I do indeed consider prayers to be a futile exercise I do appreciate the gesture as they're not directly for me: Mrs Fez has faith though isn't a church goer; I have a family of Mormons doing their thing too. What I believe is immaterial and I most certainly accept the kindness.

It goes without saying that my thoughts will be with you both. One of the things I notice about this forum is the unconditional care that people are prepared to share, and long may it continue.

Actually I know quite a lot of people from most religions so we can cover all possibilities. I'm not much into the 'please God do this or that' thing - I tried it for the cup final and it didn't work too well. Nonetheless if you know that people are thinking of you then you're not alone, and people sitting in silence sending vibes or extra strength may help.

I've been Best Man at Southern Baptist (yup, Texas!); a Hindu (Krsna) wedding; usher at a secular/Jewish wedding (apparently £3k for the Rabbi to do a blessing / Mazel Tov thing... so they obviously didn't bother!) and an extended family of Mormons. I dare say the Muslim taxi drivers we regularly use (who've been driving Mrs Fez around these past few weeks... long story, my driving style stresses her out!) will put their tuppence worth in too in their quiet moments. Pretty sure we have all the bases covered between us!
Positiveness breeds positiveness, for sure. Doesn't always pay off mind but I am of the opinion maintaining a PMA certainly helps.
