It’s more to do with paying the going rates not more than they are worth. As much as we want to treat the Football profession like any other job, it isn’t.

Yes, no one can pay more than the employer can afford to pay however like myself I don’t think the players buy into that and they are human and animosity is a real thing.

4 players are running their contracts down...why? All 4 without a doubt have loved playing for the club but now they can’t wait to do the club over for money by preventing us from getting fees for them.

    Animosity

Man U not successful? They maybe not the force they were under Fergie, but they have still won more trophies (most people heres measure of success) than everyone bar City & Chelsea since he left, I would take that level not being successful as would the fans of most clubs.

I don't think it is animosity. They are all reaching the end of their careers and if they leave on a free they will get bigger paydays. It may be true for one of them though.

There are always 2 sides to these sagas - Toby was offered a contract that matched just about every centre back in the prem (at the time), but he wanted somewhere close to what Ramos earns as a result he has spent at least 2 seasons earning half of what we offered thats his choice not Levys, and now he wants to move for 'free' as the signing on fee that he can negotiate may well cover what he has lost!

Eriksen appears to have been told by his agent that Real were interested and whilst we all hate them when Madrid come calling players want to go, they are still the ultimate club to have on your CV, and he may still be being told that he will be there come July 2020 and that is prerogative he is seeing out his contract and he has the all the power here, we offered terms that matched the highest players at our club, but I genuinely believe that its not all about money with him.

Rose I am sorry I am with those who think he is a twat, he knows his value! unfortunately so does everyone else now and they don't think it is as much Danny thinks he is worth, he will see his contract out because it suits him as he will continue to earn his competitive wage and like Toby take the free option at the end again his choice we can't stop him doing this.

Jan is the odd one he has never made noises about being unhappy or turning down deals though he has always said he would like to return to Ajax and maybe that is where is head is now.

Fully agree. But fa cups and europa leagues are mickey mouse trophies for half of the board here. <ok> (success isnt about these two but finishing top 4)

I think you've misunderstood. The best way to improve your chance of winning a trophy is to have a better team. Better teams will tend to finish higher up the table. League position is the best measure of how good you are. Trophies are that plus luck. Except for the Europa League which you only get into by being mediocre so who wants that? If you are in it. Then it's well worth winning of course.

So I'm correct in that man United haven't been successful footballing wise in your eyes due to their lack of consistency in the league.

I'm not confused i understand the benefits of earning more for the club. We just disagree with what is success and what is more important

Man Utd haven't been successful football wise when you look at their resources.
They should be competing with Barca, Real, Juve and Bayern, not Sheffield United.

The fact that you can write your first sentence shows you don't understand my post. It is possible for a team to have success despite not being one of the best. So Man U have had success. But there is no possible strategy where you can increase the value of a club by deliberately making the squad worse and winning trophies despite that. It is a possible OUTCOME because being the best doesn't guarantee trophies.

I'm not sure what you are trying to say here but will not interpret it.

This was all born from these two statements though:

I would say you can. The proof is in the pudding, tottenham hotspurs have as big a revenue (probably profits to) as they have ever done with some new shiny assets yet they are as low as they have been in over a decade.

You are extremely financially well off but are not delivering on the pitch. I would argue some other clubs have gone through this cycle to namely arsenal fc or Manchester United

I am talking about what an owner means by financial success ie long term increase in value. That can only be achieved by improving performance on the pitch. All businesses have cycles so there won't be a direct correlation over a few seasons.
How would you propose to Spurs' board to increase value while letting the team get worse and where would that value come from?

We have become financially better off precisely because the team has been performing better. However if we had actually won two or three trophies over the last few seasons we would be even better off. It would be ludicrous to think that Levy os somehow deliberately not aiming to win trophies.

Although the PL puts Utd at a disadvantage compared to those European clubs.
Even if they have a mediocre team, they will continue to qualify for CL - and receive all the benefits attached to that.
In the PL, you have to be good to get top 4. If your standards slip, you can be frozen out of the CL for a while. Then your resources don't keep pace with the clubs you mention.
Bayern aren't world beaters at present, but they don't have to worry so much about their long term financial health. As a result of that financial strength, it's more likely than not that their on field issues will be short term only.

They're currently third and they've panicked and sacked the manager, which seems a bit odd.
Rumours are that the dressing room turned against him and that was that.

They're still level on points with Leipzig and above Dortmund, so it's seems likely that they'll still win the league this year.
The current leaders are A German Team, who replaced their manager in the summer, having had a post-January slump.
They looked odds-on for a Champions League place, then won only 4 of their remaining 15 matches and missed out by 3 points.
Marco Rose has had a good start, but the Europa League might do for them in the long run this season.

Rose has a great agent who has blinded the press to the actual facts of the past 3 years.

    1. November 2016 Rose signs a new 5 year contract (reportedly worth over £65,000 per week before bonuses snd image rights) and says he is delighted that his hard work is recognised.

    2. Dec 2016 /Jan 2017 Rose is injured and misses the rest of the season.

    3. March 2027... appears on Sky's Saturday morning show and says he has a very close relationship with Pochettino and often spends hours sfter training chatting to him sbout footballing and personal issues.

    4. Spurs finish the season 2nd, unbeaten at home and sign Aurier, Sanchez and Llorente but on the day before the season starts Rose (still injured) complains he is "not paid his worth" and the club should sign players who he should not have to google.

    5. Rose returns to first team action and is s shadow of his former self.

    6. Gives interviews about racism faced on the pitch and about his mental health issues.

    7. Continues to play erratically through out the next 18 months.

    8. Told to find a new team in July 2019.

    9. Only Watford snd Newcastle bid for him...he refused to join them sfter meeting them ... reported Newcastle would not go above £50,000 per week.

    10. Gives interviews sbout not being offered a new contract snd ssys he will not leave.

Rose has treated the club poorly.
He was happy to sign a contract in November 2016 but just 9 months later he is slagging off new signings, team mates snd bitching about his pay even though he'd been injured for the previous 7 months so could hardly claim that he had earned another contract.

Rose epitomises everything wrong with today's footballers.
He is an arrogant twat with an over active sense of his own importance and it remains a mystery to me why he is seen as a loss.

He hss played 3 or 4 good games in the past 2 years, 10-15 ok games and the rest range between below average to downright ****.

Jan has been very poor this season and tbh I have been underwhelmed by Toby (who failed to get a single club to meet his piss low buy out clause) this season...Toby was offered £120,000 per week but wanted £170,000 so I am at s loss as to how Levy at why Levy is the problem here.

Levy has made plenty of mistakes but Rose is to blame for his contract situation and Toby wanted way too much money imho.

There may be a lack of PL or CL trophies in this time, but nobody would pass over the chance to win any silverware.
There's always a buzz when you win something.

I don't know what's worse: the thought that Rose will still be here in 2027, or that Sky will still have their Saturday morning show.
