Every manager we have will eventually come undone by the lack of serious effort from our owners to back him.

You can give me the last transfer window as a reminder of how Levy backed Poch and I will simply counter it with the 2 barren windows prior

Danny Rose won’t be leaving till his contract expires he says...looks like the players are getting payback for Levy being a tight fist on wages, they will just make sure we get no fees.

Well done Levy, nice stadium though and prices to match <ok>

Of course you do. Which of our previous owners took any risks at all? The new stadium is a massive risk but if it works it transforms the club forever.

That makes no sense. If Rose thinks he is underpaid he can easily leave and get paid more. The problem is that he is overpaid and wants to milk his contract.

Poch still values him so maybe he isnt overpaid? Hes your best left back after all.

Lastly if he is overpaid thats a levy mistake surely?

    It makes plenty sense

4 players running their contracts down at the same time and hell bent on doing it is a big ‘**** you’ to Levy and his stringent pay scheme. Makes sense to me...let’s make sure he gets nothing for us. It’s the best way to hurt someone like Levy.

He could leave but he’s hung about, probably due to false promises. I refer to his comments about signing unknowns. Now people might have an issue with Rose but I don’t. We all sit here speculating about our club yet here is a man right in the middle of it and because he says things some don’t like to hear...the point gets dismissed.

and here is another man who had to deal with Levy and also had more insight than all of us because he was given the Hot seat to enjoy for a bit

“The chairman proposed a challenge to increase Tottenham’s competitive level, but immediately [Luka] Modric left and we didn’t get any of the targets I had identified such as João Moutinho, Willian, Oscar or Leandro Damião,” he told Portuguese television. “These were promises that were not kept. I had a group of players I had not chosen. In two years I lost [Rafael] van der Vaart, Modric, Bale, and all the promises made were unfulfilled.”

    Makes perfect sense to me

    He’s not overpaid <laugh>

He was probably one of the best LB in the league at one time though but he certainly wasn’t overPaid. Just too many apologists who will argue that the sky is green and the grass is blue if Levy says so.

IIRC we offered around £40m and Lyon ended negotiations there, probably in no small part as we also approached Amiens to make a deal as we were unaware Lyon made the loan permanent around February last season but this was never announced (which doesn't exactly reflect well on the scouting team, as if they had decent contacts in Ligue 1 they'd have been aware of this)

Also, you're looking at the figures wrong: it wasn't us offering four times what Lyon bought him for, it was us offering about the standard rate for a central midfielder in the current transfer market, which naturally wasn't going to be accepted

This is the thing people seem to have forgotten about transfers: unless a player has a release clause, if a club's first offer for a player is immediately accepted that implies they paid over the odds - but since paying over the odds has been normalised in the past fifteen years people seem to forget that

So if we had paid players who we can't sell more then that would make them move on faster? I really don't understand what you think we should have done.

As I keep saying everyone makes mistakes. What we need are the people who make the fewest, not to sack people for minor errors and get someone who will make major ones instead.

I didn't say he was overpaid. I said he is overpaid now. That is almost inevitable for older players towards the end of their contracts and I don't see an easy way to solve it.

This is where the Lunatic Fringe always eat themselves: they say that Levy won't pay top dollar, yet we've seen both Rose and Wanyama refuse moves this summer as they refused to lower their wage expectations...which surely means Levy isn't being cheap doesn't it? And yet somehow it's Levy's fault anyway

They are the same thing. You can't have a financially succesful football club that doesn't deliver on the pitch

For a while perhaps, but it can't really continue permanently. But I should really have said that the value of the club always increases with better on pitch performances and I'm sure Levy knows that and is motivated by it.

That last quote is not really the truth. Rafa said he spoke with the manager and was of the opinion that he would not feature in his plans. When Bale forced his move we signed 7 players. Moutinho had a problem with third party ownership. Willian had a medical but was a mercenary who took the pieces of silver from Abramovic. Lamela was seriously misused as were some of the others. Leandro was a soap opera. That man in the hot seat was only making excuses for his failings..

Managers claiming that they didn't get the exact signings that they wanted as an excuse is just bullshit.
Yeah? You and 99.9% of the other people doing the same job. So what?
Even Guardiola tried that **** this summer, moaning about his lack of money.

    I get that too

He should still be doing better than he is with this squad.

That brings us onto his relationship with certain squad members due to contracts running down etc. I’ve said it many a time...he’s too emotional...therefore as much as we think he should be getting his head down I just don’t think he is that man. He would rather sulk because that’s what the Lemon tree told him

Anyone who crosses Levy says the same kind of things about him as a person to interact with. He’s a pig headed owner...rigid and that’s no good for us.
