English players who look busy and bustle aggressively up the wing are often preferred to players with talent. I remember Francis Lee who once ran up the wing and delivered a cross. Then like Macmanamon spent his career running into cul de sacs. Lee then made a fortune from toilet rolls which I found appropriate.

Here's a picture of r/coys after they heard Upamecano being linked with us...

Somebody on WindyCOYS's blog suggested that our approach is a lot like Chelsea's was a few years ago, where it's seen as something to give the club a regular return on investment

Personally I don't believe that at all, because if we want a significant RoI we should be addressing how players stagnate once they hit their 19th birthday, which I'm long convinced is a major part of why Poch has the likes of Parrott and Skipp train with the first team rather than go through the endless cycle of U23 games

Not sure why they can't do both.
Might also be good for a number of our fringe players, who aren't getting any football at all.
    Wanyama and Walker-Peters, perhaps?

It does indicate something's wrong with the U23s that Poch doesn't trust them with developing players and prefers to do it himself

The real issue is that he's got a point, as demonstrated by the likes of Kazaiah Sterling, Tashan Oakley-Boothe and Anthony Georgiou plateauing far too early, coupled with the likes of Reo Griffiths and Keanan Bennetts being more than willing to swap our U23s for someone else's

But he's not doing it either, for the most part.
Our loans aren't working, our U23s aren't and our first team isn't integrating academy players.
Something has to change there, regardless of what happens with Pochettino.

I don't know enough about the youth team to offer any insight, but I'd suggest that the problems coincide with Wayne Burnett's arrival.
He took over as U23 coach in the summer of 2017 and things haven't appeared to work since.

I'm not convinced the issue is entirely Burnett's doing, though, as the practice of not loaning out the top prospects and only loaning out the ones the club hoped to make a quick buck off of was in place at least a couple of years before Burnett was appointed, case in point
2015-16: Oduwa, Ball, McEvoy, Coulthirst, Ogilvie, Ward and Christian Maghoma loaned out
2016-17: Ogilvie, Miller, Walkes, Amos, McGee, Harrison and Loft loaned out

What sticks out about those seasons is that Winks and Onomah were getting their first appearances in 2015-16, while in 2016-17 it was Carter-Vickers getting his first appearances, but by and large we've gone from drip feeding youngsters into the team with a few sub appearances in the cups and league to a solitary cup or European dead rubber sub appearance that Edwards, Oakley-Boothe, Georgiou, Walkes, Marsh, Sterling and Eyoma have had - with the obvious exceptions of Skipp and KWP, that is

That's the issue for me, as on paper we should be introducing one or two youngsters a season but we didn't introduce a single one in 2017-18 even though Edwards, Shashoua, Georgiou and Sterling all had reason to hope that would be the case, and while we did introduce Skipp last season at the same time Edwards, Shashoua, Georgiou and Sterling all demanded loans due to their not being moved into the first team

The annoying thing is we seemed to be attempting to reverse that in the Season Killer Cup this season by giving Parrott and Tanganga starts as well as an opportunity for Skipp and KWP to get regular minutes...and that lasted all of 90 minutes

This is about us not Leeds...signing players for 10 Mill and loaning back out when we are not in such a position..we have our own team to improve with limited funds.

Plus Poch probably secretly agrees with Rose’s outbursts aimed at the hierarchy

Would you prefer that Clarke was in our U23s? Because the likelihood is that's where he would be right now, the same U23s that have stagnated for the last couple of seasons so actually getting football is a much better proposition - and this is where it becomes entirely about Leeds, given they're the ones mucking Clarke about

Verts gets left out of the Belgium team photo, and rather than kick off about it he posts a single tweet that makes light of the situation

...and, acknowledging the oversight/error/whatever, the Belgian FA respond by also making light of it

Interesting he didn't go stomping off to the first tabloid journalist he could find to run his mouth about it, isn't it?

Do they get more pay for turning out in internationals or just in the squad?

As this is a Spurs forum, the question should be if they;re more likely to be injured when turning out for internationals or in training

Sadly, there's enough examples on both sides...
