That we're in a scrap for a top 4 place; that is all. Spurs had their off day on the first day of the season, we had ours on Saturday....prior to that, we'd played 4 and should of won 4....and the general consensus was that our performances were good.

We were Dire, no doubt....A lot of people saying that we got our tactics wrong....maybe, maybe not....it was hard to tell because we couldn't pass our way out of our own half....it looked to me more like poor execution of tactics rather than anything else....in which case, it really doesn't matter what tactical plan was deployed!

Has this tactical naivety been on display at any other time under Kenny? No. Have we played like this before? No. Yes, it was extremely frustrating but does this one game tell me anything that I didn't already know? No

Those who thought that we would waltz into the top 4 have had a sudden wake up call, those who actually thought that we could win the league probably feel a little red faced right now.....and that probably explains the sudden deluge of negativity that seems to of engulfed so many.......I do hope that everyone gets back behind the team and ALL of the players quickly....

It tells us that quite simply something we already knew all along. We're a work in progress and possibly about 60% of where we want to be. It was rival fans that and not us that said ''This is Liverpools year'' ''Liverpool are going to be champions''. Us Liverpool fans are realistic and will not set such rediculous targets. Most of us have said that a top three finish would be the most we could get and aim for this season.
As for this nonsense we should expect more seeing as we've spent ''vast amounts of money''. This is bullshit. We've a spend net wise since January that is £6million less than Sergio Aguero and £58 million less than Spurs since 2009. I still believe that we can be champions in the long-term, but it may take 3-4 top of the range signings to do so.
We've strengthened the foundations with solid and not spectacular signings, and Henderson and Coates are for the future as well as the present and will develop into very good players, both being 20 years old.
Thats the next step. We're competing with Man United having an established side that has been together for a long period and is practically ''well oiled''. We're also competing with Man Citys money. However things may change that evens the playing field. One being the FFP rules which will hurt Manchester City big time, the other being Alex Fergusons inevitable retirement.
Like it or not and this is not a dig, that Man United job is going to be a poisoned chalice. They are going to have at least two managers within a 6-7 year period.
As for the performance yesterday, we cannot be unfair and single out one individual as it was collectively a very very poor performance, and one that hopefully will not be repeated again. The players themselves need to look at themselves even though I do have gripes with the referee who made a number of unwarranted bookings ie the first on both Skrtel and Adam, and gave Spurs a number of incredibly soft free-kicks. The referee was very fussy and disrupted the game as a whole. However we did deserve to lose and that is not open to debate. Were we 4-0 bad, sorry we weren't.

Yes we played dire like you said mate we were stuck in our own half and that is because T.ham outplayed us in every position. It will act like a wake up call for a lot of people including the players.Of course it was never going to be a walk in the park at WHL,but i was expecting a bit more from us just never happened
All we can do is learn from it and move on and do better next game.It was very frustrating yesterday and i swore my head off but that was yesterday.

I'm already back behind the team the anger does not last long with my team

Sorry KPR, but can you stop suggesting that Spurs have outspent Liverpool.
You know as well as I do that the difference in wage bills is enormous.

£121m to £67m, at last count.
Your transfer totals were well off when you posted this stuff on the Spurs board before, too.

You're entitled to your own opinion, but don't try to alter the facts.

bad day for the team. kenny has got to get the lads together and this result proves there is a lot of hard work ahead.

i don't think we're either that bad or good enough to take top four for granted. i expect a reaction next game.

Its not about the last result it is about how you deal with the next one. 2 defeats on the bounce means the next game is all the more important because a third defeat might start effecting confidence levels.

Cheers Foredeck, but I actually missed most of the argumentative stuff on the cross-board thread.
I wouldn't have been able to do much anyway, due to the way that cross-board articles work at the moment, anyway.
It's very easy for those things to get out of hand over relatively minor remarks and a couple of provocative comments can kill them.

I apologise if anyone from our board was out of line.

I learned that we are not very good with 9 men.

That's not quite right. We weren't very good with 11 men, arguably marginally better with 10 (in so far as they didn't score), and a wreck with 9.

For me it was a reality check. We started the season as work in progress. We probably deserved to win our first 4 games and then came a reminder of exactly where we are.

We started poorly with 11, but games can change in an instant if its 11v11. All it took was bringing Spearing or Kuyt on, who would close space more effectively than Henderson or Adam and we could've been right back in the game. The only thing with our performance was that the team selection was all wrong for Spurs away. Lucas was virtually playing on his own in the midfield, had we had Spearing instead of Adam and Kuyt instead of Henderson then I guarantee you we would've been much more effective at closing Spurs down.

The only assessments that can actually be made of the game is that Skrtel wasn't a good option at right back, especially when up against Bale but most people were saying that in the match thread before the game, so its no surprise that he got ripped to pieces and ended up getting himself sent off. The other thing was that Charlie Adam can't play in a two man midfield against good teams, like Spurs, but most people already knew this, and have pointed it out on numerous occasions.

I think this result will be good for us in the long run, as we won't see Lucas and Adam in a midfield two against big teams anymore, and we won't see Skrtel at right back ever again.

What it shows us is that you can't have an off day in the Premier League, certainly against the better teams. Tottenham had an off day against City and lost 5-1, Wolves had an off day against QPR and lost 3-0, Bolton had an off day against United and lost 5-0. We're seeing quite a few of these big score lines this season, which suggests that you can't afford to be off the pace, or you will lose.

For now, that's what I'm putting it down to, an off day for us. If we lose against Wolves next weekend, which I don't think we will, then maybe I'll be concerned.

It shows we need to improve ~ in a quick summary. Lest we not forget Spurs have lost 5-1 to City at home only a few weeks ago, so it shows there will be a few freak results this season.

    Oh for god sake

Look we lost a bloody game and yes we were DIRE, we were p1ss poor and even Swansea could have beaten us.

But we had Andy up front, I am not convinced to start was great, played 4-4-2 we all know was wrong and we didn't have a proper RB to stop bale. What the hell were peopel expecting?

We are 8th and playing apart from the last fecking game a damn sight better than we have in years. So give it a break, we all wanted Kenny in and he has the same passion we do, he will be absolutely furious over the way we capitulated to a team away from home or not!

He would have also seen what he has to do and sometimes bad sh1t has to happen to make sure it never does again.

I am not giving up and supporting Man City or Man Utd as they may win the prem, this is my team, through thick and thin, so get over it.

If it is a run of five games or 10 like under knobson I will worry

    You are.
    Give it up.
    Everyone knows.

That's all delightful, but how is any of it relevant to your ridiculous claims that Spurs have outspent Liverpool?
Are you just going to ignore the most important part of that equation entirely?

I apologise to everyone else on this thread for derailing it a little.
I'm sure you all know what he's like, though.
