Offer Cheik a new contract Ashley!

  1. If i was Pardew, i'd negotiate new terms with Tiote. Increase his contract to 5.5 years and double his wages from 35k to 70k. It's a massive wage, but we are more than garunteed our moneys worth. We have an extra 35-40 million quid in the bank, and i'm sure an extra 35k a week is nothing to ashley.

Cheik's a top player and a top bloke, but if Chelsea come in for him, unless he is reassured that he's loved so much here and is needed, he will leave. Chelsea will most likely offer him bigger wages, and a chance to play with his idol Essien, and his mate Drogba.

I doubt he'd got to United, but Chelsea looks like the pefect team for him unfortunately. Exactly the sort of team that could use him, however i think he'd be on the bench for the next few years if he does go to Chelsea.

    1. Wage structure £50K max once Joey & Colo get new contracts

    2. What's the point in offering 5.5 year contract with a pay rise if Tiote's going to leave in the summer?

Tash, what good has being on a 5.5 year contract done in protecting our players in the past? Contracts mean nothing in football.

So you want the club to break the wage structure thus allowing the club to hold onto one player which has only one positive effect which is increasing his resell value in the summer?

If Chelsea et al offer £10/15 million for Tiote in the summer Ashley will be very interested as it's a massive return on an investment.

It's up to Tiote if he wants to go and we know the clubs stance on retaining players.

  5. I'm saying we should offer him the pay rise to keep him.... If he was going to stay anyway what would be the point?
Jesus christ man sometimes people really don't grasp what i'm trying to say.. The wage cap is only what Ashley has said he doesn't want to break, it is not written in stone.

If we break the wage cap for Tiote then surely Barton, Enrique etc (who in my opinion have been equaly as important to us as Tiote) will demand to be on the same wages. If Joey is taking a pay cut just to stay here we can't go around offering other players even more just because they are the flavour of the month.

Keep all players on the same wage structures and it keeps everyone happy.

And we're just saying what's the point? If he wants an improved deal he could possibly get one in the summer. But don't know if you remember a young lad we offered a new increased deal in October to stave off interest in him, his name was Andy Carroll, you'll find he doesn't play for us anymore. So why spend more money on an increased deal when Tiote can't go anywhere til the Summer anyway?

Then let them name what they want and we get screwed royally when wages from contracts become unsustainable?

And get ourselves into the same mess we were in before. Players like Geremi on 60k a week, Owen on 120k a week. At least if players suddenly decide not to turn up anymore then we are only paying them so much.

Especially with these new laws coming in, we can't afford to go round offering players whatever they want wage wise to keep them happy. If they are only here for the money, let them go.

  12. Don't be silly mate. I'm not saying we should let them name their price, but i personally think our best players are worth the wages they get payed. Barton and Tiote will give back more than they offered in wages. We shouldn't break the wage cap for everyone, just the players that are worth more. I have a high opinion of our squad, and i'm pretty sure most of them won't be as pathetic as to say "he's on more than me" and start crying for a pay rise.

Would you rather lose Tiote, or lose an extra 35k a week? What about Barton? He's on 67k a week, is he not worth that to us? Or would you rather save the 20k or so we will be gaining with his pay cut? If Barton accepts the pay cut, i will be extremely proud to have an amazing player, who's also passionate and humble, but i'd not be upset if he said he wanted to stay on his wages. He's extremely worth it.

Unless it's an outstanding fee like 35 million, the players are much more vital that the money, and i'm sure if Ashley can afford to waste millions in the casino, he can afford to give certain players an extra 30 grand a week in wages.

  13. Yeah, but i'm sure we can pretty much agree that these few players on our team are worth it? The team we have now is extremely different to the one in 08/09. Jesus all i'm saying is we should offer one player more money to keep him, but obviously you's don't all think he's worth it...

I'd look to offer him a more long term contract cause it'll give more reason to push his selling price right up which may be sufficient enough to put people off.
I think the AC sale was really a one off Ebay bidding style fanatasy football.

If the wage structure allows us to give him increased pay then why not, he will have earned it.

He is one of the core players we really need to hang onto

By all means offer him a bit more money but keep it within the wage structure. Match whatever Joey Barton is about to sign on to. He is worth more money but he's not worth unsettling the team and causing every player to demand more money.

How would you feel if you were Barton. Just took a pay cut to 50k a week, been the best player all season for us and the guy next to you in midfield is just been offered 20k more.

Offer everyone the same and it keeps a lot more people happy. You'll never please everyone but you can keep the majority happy.

  18. Oh, i thought the wage cap was 35-40k... Well 50k sounds resasonable actually.

I think it was that when we first got promoted but I'm sure Barton is being offered 50k and Carroll was going to be round about on that come summer. We have also offered 55k for that midfielder on a pre contract. All paper talk but it's good to hear stuff like that rather than the usual news we get.

Should have read the 2nd post in this thread where I clearly stated the cap was £50K.

Again I ask though what is the point in offering Tiote a new contract now? I'm not certain what he's currently on, say £30K a week, he currently can't move clubs (if he goes) until 1st August. 24 weeks away. You pay him 50k for the next 24 weeks (an increase of 20k a week) you've just cost the club £500k to "keep" a player who may move in the summer no matter how much we offer him. As someone stated earlier the only plus side to that maybe someone offers more money for him.
