The Conservative campaign has made a shocking start. If they don't up their game we could have the mother of all upsets. Cummings may not be the genius he's made out to be.
Anything specific just happened? Apart from Rees-Mogg reminding us all of what an idiot he is. My opinion of all politicians is now so low, I expect nothing but bungling from the whole lot of them. I won't be voting unless something extraordinary happens to engage my interest.
Another victory for our Courts. The police action to ban Extinction Rebellion disruption in London has been ruled UNLAWFUL by some horse hair wigged twat. ER are now rubbing their hands with glee at the prospect of suing the Met for about 5,000 cases of unlawful arrest. I would like to think ER would pause to think about this, and maybe choose to waive that right, as a gesture of good will. But I bet they don't. Extinction Rebellion go to war on commuters and folk just trying to put bread on the table. Not to mention emergency services trying to save people's lives. Now they will go to war again on the Police, and coin in millions in compo, thanks to a doddery old fart who doesn't know when to stop waving his gavel. And that money will be used to fund their next wave of terrorist sabotage. They ought to be banned, and their leaders locked up. They are a f*cking disgrace.
Global warming, or Climate Change to use the popular euphemism, is now the third biggest election issue, according to a Yougov poll, and is the second biggest among young voters. The main reason for this is the activities of XR, which have got people talking about it, albeit 35 years too late. Attenborough is another reason. Personally I place it as the biggest election issue.
Good news for remain voters - The Lib Dems, Greens & Welsh Nationalists have formed an alliance. They won't oppose each other in the 60 odd seats one of them has the best chance of winning. If remaining in the EU is most important to you, this is a boost. If anything else (the environment etc.) was more important to you, well tough titty. Anyone who'd prefer not to vote tactically can stay at home. Remember though, Green Lib Cymru has no respect for democracy anyway, so you shouldn't have expected any better from them. I guess the one-issue remainers will be happy enough. If the UK revokes article 50, then all UK policies will be decided in Brussels anyway, so fretting about them will be pointless. PS: If a remain alliance wins the General Election I won't accept or respect that result. After 2016, there is not one reason why I should.
Disappointing that the Greens have been mugged by the lib dems, denying thousands the chance to vote on the environment.
Just been watching Victoria Fritz talk about the ending of the USA/China trade war …. it's a pity she works for the BBC she is such a fine presenter and she wants he son to play football for England before he is 25. What's more to want in a wife!
I heard a piece about this on the BBC news this morning. They interviewed half a dozen people in one of the constituencies where the Greens are standing aside. Not one person said they thought it was a good idea. several thought it was wrong and undemocratic, to deny voters a full range of candidates. I'm glad voters are not happy with this kind of thing. And I'm personally not bothered if Farage fields Brexit Party candidates in every seat. Should other parties win those seats, they will have done it fair and square. Not because of a patronising stitch-up.
Apparently there is one flooded house in Sheffield whose resident refuses to be rescued by the Fire Brigade. He shouted at his would-be rescuers t "F*ck orft and get ahrt!"
Big Brexit News; Farage has just said the Brexit Party won't be contesting any Conservative held seats. That's a bit of a switch from his attitude until now. And I'm not sure I'm happy about it either. Just as some voters will be denied a full choice of candidates where Plaid, Greens or Lib Dems are not standing, they will now be denied the same where the Brexit Party does not stand. This will be good news for Boris, and it might even mean UKIP hold on to a few of their deposits. Perhaps Nigel has had another look at Boris's Deal and figured it isn't as bad as he thought. It's better than any nonsense Corbyn will come up with if he wins.
A week's a long time in politics, and this move may not turn out as well for Nigel as first appears. Considering his vitriolic opposition to Boris's deal he has lost some credibility, and does not appear any more principled than the other party leaders, all of whom have been twisting and turning over B****t.
This is why we need a second elected chamber based on proportional representation, rather than the ridiculous anachronism of the House of Lords. Across the UK, millions of people could vote for the Brexit Party, yet they could end up with no seats in the Commons. The same can be said for other smaller parties as well. If we had a 500 seat second chamber, and the Brexit Party got 10% of the national vote, they would win 50 seats. Of course that would go for all the other parties too. They would all have a voice, and nobody's vote for the second chamber elections would be a wasted vote. Surely that would serve to strengthen democracy, and make everybody feel part of the process again.
I agree with this. If anything comes out of the last three years, hopefully it will be some political reforms. Maybe even a proper written constitution.
