You're going to have to explain it to me, Bob. For me, the story is that a working class Labour MP (albeit retiring, having been a member of the party since he was a teen) is recommending that voters cast their vote for a Eton educated toff, rather than his own leader). I've never heard of anything this extreme before.

So far as Clarke is concerned, he's a died in the wool Remainer. I'd expect him to vote for the Remain Party, the Lib Dems. Brexit is throwing up lots of these anomalies and it's not big news

Ok I will try mate. One story gets a hell of a lot more media coverage than the other. That was her point as she actually says if you read her full tweet. Hope that helped mate

Read your article, Nines. Explains a lot, and I'm not going to question your huge amount of experience.

But if I was at the top of a tower block and there was a fire below that needed the Fire Service in attendance, I would calmly leave the block until the fire was out. After the horror of Grenfell, I suspect people will make their own judgement to this effect, and I am sympathetic to the Fire Service that they will have to handle this new public mindset

Yes, I get that Bob. But you must see why the Austin story gets more coverage. Because he's advocating Labour voters voting for the opposition. Clarke did not.

Well, for someone who's mentally defective, he gave an incredibly articulate and cogent interview to the Radio 4 Today programme today.

Her point was, as you have said, that Austin got a lot more media coverage than Clarke.

Why is that? Because Austin is a far more serious case because he's advocating Labour voters vote for the opposition.

If you don''t agree with that analysis Bob, you're going to have to explain where I'm going wrong!

She tweeted about the coverage mate. I presume she means by it being biased. Her tweet was correct. That was her point. She made it and she is correct in my opinion.

Biased in what respect? Austin was the bigger story, was it not?

That would be a matter of opinion but her point was that one story gets more media coverage than the other due to a biased media. Shes right it does. I'm not arguing as to the whys and neither was she.

I understand your reasoning Goldy and agree about the analysis but that wasnt her point. To be fair, I had never heard of Ian Austin before today, Ken Clarke is a different matter and one that the majority of people know or have heard of. A true Tory as my grandmother used to say!

In other words, she's saying "the media is biased against the Labour Party, but I' not going to say why"!

I accept Clarke is a bigger beast, but Austin is quite well known. And what he's come up with about anti-semitism in Corbyn's Labour, the potential for Labour wrecking the economy and Corbyn not being fit to lead the country is a lot more shocking than Ken saying he won't vote Tory because he's a Remainer...

    imo!

The media is predominantly right wing, you know that. That's what's caused all this mess in the first place. Her point is about coverage. Some guy who nobody knows says one thing, some guy just about everyone knows says one thing.

I'm unsure as to what reasons Ken Clarke has given to not voting Tory. Didnt he vote for the withdrawal agreement? I may be mistaken. I've seriously never heard of the other guy. What he says are again just opinions and slogans. Why will he wreck the economy? Why is he not fit to be leader? A bit of substance wouldnt go a miss.

No, Clarke voted for the Benn Act and lost the Tory whip with 20 others.

I think you will be hearing more from Ian Austin in due course. I suspect the media will be all over him like a rash.

With respect Goldie, I would be very surprised if you were able to ‘calmly leave the block until the fire is out’. No disrespect to you, I honestly mean that, but people panic, people get scared, people make decisions that wouldn’t be the norm for them. I have seen rational people suddenly go crazy with fright/anger/fear when faced with far lesser things than a ‘fire below’......it’s inside all of us.

I could understand some panic if fire was raging and smoke billowing up the central staircase, Stainesy. I'm thinking more of a situation where the Fire Services are dealing with a fire on Floor 2 and I'm on 18. The fire fighter comes up and says, we're dealing with it. Recommend you stay in your home. I think I'd say, thanks, I'll keep the doors closed and all that, but I'm going to make my way down with family members etc just in case, because after Grenfell, you can't be too careful

    I think that's how I'd react
