Wright-Phillips can get better â QPR boss Things could get interesting in Warnock's dressing room 19/09/2011 by David McIntyre Neil Warnock insists there is more to come from Shaun Wright-Phillips after the playerâs electrifying start to his QPR career. The England international has impressed in his first two matches for Rangers and came close to scoring in both games. Warnock believes the goals will come for Wright-Phillips and that his performances can still improve. âI think he can do even better. Iâve said to him I reckon he can get into double figures in terms of goals this season,â said the Râs boss. âPeople expect him to be on the right wing but for us heâll pop up on the left, through the middle â you name it. âHe spent a long time out of the team at Manchester City and in his career has seen players that havenât got as much ability as him get picked. âItâs just about giving him the opportunity and heâll get that with us. Heâs loving it at the moment.â Wright-Phillips, 29, had an effort cleared off the line against Newcastle on his debut and smashed a shot against the post in Saturdayâs 3-0 win at Wolves.
I agree. 10 goals plus for SWP this year shouldnt be a problem. Once Bothroyd and Taarabt start finding their scoring boots we'll be a threat from everywhere. This team certainly has goals in it and if we can keep the majority of players fit we will be fine this season.
Not sure how many years it's been since SWP was a permanent member of the starting team, he's was a bench warmer at City and Chelsea. I think he'll love starting every match and playing regular can only help improve him (not that he needs much improvement). I imagine if he stays fit he'll be number one in assists and pop a few in himself.
It'll be interesting to see the squad for the November international's - I recon that if he and Barton keep up their form, they might be sniffing around for a place if we've qualified already.... Possibly Derry, too!!
