Musselburgh 1.15 Simple Mani I've been following this horse since its 2nd last year at Southwell over 2 m 4 f in a class 5. Today Simple Mani is still a maiden but returns to class 5 on its chase debut and goes down in trip to 2 m 4 f. Was fancied on return after a wind surgery 2 runs ago. I've the feeling Simple Mani could finally get his head in front today. What do you think about the 1.15 at Musselburgh ?
I think Izzy's Champion could find a place at a decent price. Around 16s at the moment. Be interesting to see how it goes over fences although ground is likely softer than ideal.
What do you fancy in the Chepstow bumper stick? Very little form to go on so your reading of the pedigrees could be key here. The Lacey/Johnson runner Lamanver Storm gets my vote - has some winners in the family and sure to be ready for this.
One horse at a massive price that has the back class is Swincombe Scorchio, who after 500 days off has plummetted to a crazily low mark. I have to hope that Gundry has got him cherry ripe for his return, but if I was training him, i'd want him to have his best chance on his return given how long he has been off. He won a race over course and distance off a mark of 113, when he hacked up and whilst he didn't go on from that from marks in the 120s. His two runs at the course were that win and a second to a certain Rock The Kasbah! Today he is 25s in places, and I just hope we see him back to form and for him to run well.
Another interesting horse is Hes No Trouble for the Jockey Club Syndicate, despite the horrible naming of the horse, he has shown some very useful form over hurdles and I think he is going to make an even better chaser. He was at Cheltenham for the showcase meeting when they were trying to drum up interest for the syndicate - https://www.thejockeyclub.co.uk/cheltenham/membership-and-offers/syndicate-ownership/ I think his novice hurdle form is very interesting, he was a major eyecatcher on debut behind Birchdale where he traded at 4.7 in the run (BSP was 50!!) and then he followed that up with a very useful win at Huntingdon beating another Henderson horse by 14 lengths. He then found the race at Ludlow too much, and unsurprisingly he has been given the time to develop further, and comes to chasing on an interesting mark.
I say didn’t Devizes do the regular readers proud last evening with a fine 2nd on his handicap bow. Slightly frustrating that he found one too good but a decent performance nonetheless. Looking ahead I’m sure he’ll go up a few pounds for that effort but should be more than capable of taking a 0-60 next time out (although there seems little chance 20/1 or 25’s will be available on that occasion). Alternatively, I wonder if connections will consider juvenile hurdling. Meanwhile, has the Stick boy (or anyone else for that matter) seen the lineage of the Bumper contender that Lieutenant Henderson has got entered up at Aintree on Saturday??? The 3YO gelding is called Hooper and owned by the 11th richest man in Wales. Has surely to be amongst the best bred animals to go down the Bumper route I would have thought. By Rip Van Winkle and the dam is, my old fave, Earth Amber (Hooper is her first foal) who the great man trained to be both Group and Listed placed. ‘The Weekender’ are today also hollering re this one saying he ‘is an imposing individual with a fine attitude’ and ‘has been pleasing Henderson on the Seven Barrows slopes’. Quite excited by this one and one to look out for when he appears on the old racetrack, methinks.
In the 2:20 at Musselburgh there's two I've had a bit on. Arthur's Secret 6/1 win bet. Ground and trip no problem, fresh after a run on the flat should go close. Blue Kascade 22/1 ew. 50% strike rate at the course so clearly likes it here. Two thirds and a sixth place finish on the other 3 starts here. Back over hurdles for the first time in a while can hopefully spark a return to form. Reverese fc on the two.
Typically finishes a never nearer 4th. Just missed two out but clearly showed he retains the ability. Lets hope they come back to Chepstow next time and in similar grade.
Sorry mate, been out on the links. No strong opinion really. That Lamanver Storm pedigree is ok but the family are not usually forward types enough to win on debut. I think Switch Hitter is a hell of a price if you can ignore the drift.
Race stopped due to an injured horse. Couldn't give two ****s about my bet I didn't see the race any news on Squouateur? Is the horse ok?
I thought he ran a stonking race staying on in great fashion. And on the run round the bend into the home straight he seemed, to my eye, to take a false step which slowed his progress for a furlong or so before the old boy found some rejuvenation and really battled back. Gutsy effort and one to look out for again.
His jumping really impressed me and the jockey wasn't harsh on him throughout the race. Given the market drift I am expecting that they didn't have him spot on for the run, and as such it was very eyecatching.
