20 people have been given jail sentences totalling 70 years for fraud after claiming they lived in the tower. Let's see how many people get jailed for installing cladding that didn't meet building regulations. But carry on doffing your caps to people who blatantly don't give a **** about you and blaming the pesky poor folk.
There's a massive difference between the fraudulant personal claims for loss, hardship and compensation on the back of the tragedy to the corporate shortcomings of building control and the abuse of statutory building regulations. You can argue that either is worse than the other depending on your political persuasion, but you can't compare one against the other. The only similarity is that both groups sought financial gain from their actions - one before the tragic event, and one after. Ripping off the system seems to be endemic these days, and neither deserve respect nor lenience. Those that lined their pockets through the substandard specification of materials that ultimately endangered life should be pursued and brought to book never to be repeated, but the scumbags who subsequently took advantage and sought personal gain from this tragedy are no less a pile of **** and got what they deserved.
Yep one killed people, the other didn't. Both are scum in my book but it's telling that the richer ones that killed people are not in jail while the poorer ones who didn't kill people are in jail.
As an ex-London firey I have followed the Grenfell business very closely. dbc is correct. There are a lot of unanswered, and in fact unasked questions about the cladding on this building. The report has come out and, as usual, all the important arses have been covered and the LFB have been left to carry the can. Boris was your Lord Mayor when a large number of stations were closed and the number of firefighters reduced drastically. dbc is right, this guy don't care about you, either!
It's fair to say the comparative ease with which you can prosecute the after event fraudsters is far greater than the more complex unravelling of the "before event" wrongdoings. That doesn't mean it shouldn't be pursued and convictions sought if only as a deterent to it being repeated putting more lives in danger. To that end, the convictions already handed down to the scum who sought personal gain after this event should have a similar effect. I doubt many will try to defraud the system again and take advantage of such tragic circumstances.

Apart from the seriousness of the subject topic, it's a shame your political bias taints your posts - we could have such fun together......
Think sparky has answered this quite eloquently. I would suggest that you have answered with a degree of bias and dbc post was politically motivated Sum total those who made false claims deserve all they get as do those who were responsible for the cladding Try and keep politics out of such a disaster
You're being silly now he wasn't even born in 1914. He is responsible for a lot of things but not these.
So why were the 2013 recommendations of the coroners report in to the Lakanal House Fire not acted upon by ministers and public officials? This fire was preventable and there were clear warnings that it could occur and the decisions taken or not taken that made that set of circumstances in which it did occur were clearly political.
Lakanal house fire was I believe in 2009 I furthermore believe that labour were the government at the time ? These things unfortunately happen no matter which party is in power I say again leave politics out of such disasters
