Im not being funny but has anyone heard or read one single football related TV show or newspaper even acknowledging the fact that we sit 4th in the league after 5 difficult games?

If any other football club apart from the top 6 teams were sitting where we are, somebody somewhere would at least mention it if not praise it. I've heard nothing.

I admit I don't have Sky any more, due to my hatred of them, so maybe they said it on Goals on Sunday or any other programme, but if they did I will be shocked.

Their is something about the name of Newcastle Utd that passes over the brain of every person in our country when it comes to judging us, with praise. Its almost as if it's totally expected. The team that they all predicted will finish 18th and go down, are sitting 4th..you gonna mention it?! If Newcastle have a bad start or something bad happens...EVERY f*cker and his next door neighbour see it, talk about it and lay into it gladly. But when something decent happens, its almost as if it doesn't recognise into people brains.

My theory on this (optimistically) is that most people do see NUFC as a big club, so when a modest bit of achievement happens, people sub-consciously just accept it as the norm. We finished mid-table last year and had some unreal results for a newly promoted team...but yet people didnt really care because it was NUFC. If Norwich have the season we had last year....you wont be able to breath without the praise heralded on East Anglia.

This article has gone on a bit too long, but it never fails to piss me off.

Arsenal, Tyne-wear derby (away), Fulham, QPR (away), Aston Villa (away) = 4th place with only 2 goals conceded.....unbelievable.

Seeing as no ****er recognises this, apart from ourselves, maybe we should expect to finish 4th at the end of the season seeing as it seems to be our level...??

If we did....these people would soon call us delusional Geordie idiots.

    GFY.

    :D

Aye on MOTD2 (I missed Saturday's) they seemed to be more impressed that Stoke were 5th than the fact we were 4th...

Regardless though, I think the only reason we're in 4th is 'cause Arsenal have faltered and Liverpool and Spurs have had pretty tough games!

I'm over the moon with our points total and saturday's performance. The League position is great, but I don't expect it to last. Top half is definitely on if we continue the way we are though!

Yea I missed satday but watched motd2..and they didnt even mention our names in the league table. Man U, Man City, Chelsea.......then the relegation places!

Dont really listen to clowns, especially off motd, but cant help but piss me off. Because you know for a 100% fact that if something goes bad, or we get bad headlines, they lay on thick!

If we finished 4th I bet they wouldn't bother mentioning it either.

I have still heard some criticism and no praise at all. Apparently we didn't deserve to win yersterday, we were luck against QPR and if Lawro's predictions happened we would be in the relegation zone. However I am just happy to tick along nicely without any recognition.

We have been lucky at times, like vs QPR but on the whole we've been solid and it's not a coincidence if it's our best start of a season in 15 years...<party>

Stoke received a lot of media attention last week after a run of good results and finding themselves high up but to be honest I'm not interested in our perception by others anymore. There are a lot of myths that surround our club that continue to be perpetuated by the press & media. A lot of it you can tell is deliberate. Articles on the web need to generate traffic to keep advertisers happy so if its possible to trot out the 'messiah complex', 'deluded geordies', or 'they'd rather lose 4-3 than get a point' nonsense then the inevitable backlash keeps the sites counter ticking over nicely. I'd rather just tide along quietly and keep our business to ourself.

I took a lot of pleasure out of the performance on Saturday and I don't need a pundit (most of whom aren't that insightful anyway, especially Shearer disappointingly) to confirm what I already know.

Love the guy for what he did for the club and his loyalty, but as it stands, I have no respect for him as a pundit.

Yea he is pretty embarrassing at times. I mean, why he is their?? Does he wanna be a manager or what? He wasn't interested in Blackburn job. What job does he want exactly, cause he isnt coming home any time soon.

Last week was a good one, "The transfer window is now out the window". Good one Al, made me chuckle. Still my hero though :D

To be fair to Big Al, he's paid to be an impartial pundit. If he was always spouting the Newcastle United angle, the BBC would be bombarded with complaints about the 'Geordie Pundit'.
