Yet another squad will be playing the final at the same time. Except they won't know whether it was the final or 3rd place playoff until the result from the semi final is phoned in.
River Plate and Flamengos are through to the final. So should be one of those in the final of the CWC.
Meh. You have to be winners of something to be in the Charity Shield or Super Cup. Doesn't stop them being show-piece games. Put it this way, if we win the CWC and the Super Cup and nothing else this season - will you count it as a success? None of these trophies are entirely pointless per se, but we need to have a sense of priorities and realise we currently have more important considerations.
Not saying that we ruin ourselves for this Saying, number one we are in it so might as well try to win it The CWC isn’t really interfering The Carabao should be our fringe and youth players so no skin off our noses I value every comp we are in The CL is more likely to damage our chances of winning the league than the CWC does that mean we take it less serious We all want to win the league so are we saying get knocked out of every comp so nothing stands in its way. You are the one who always says you just want to be entertained and aren’t too bothered about the win The Carabao provided and entertaining game the prem is providing some eyesore games - tense but not fluid. the super cup was a better spectacle than the CL final I just don’t understand anyone who dismisses trophies as tin pot but have said this before - I know I won’t convince you but I keep trying I am just so excited to be in these tournaments. I would hate to be watching Utd doing all this two games in two days - it’s amazing Just different outlooks I guess December gonna be tense
I've never said that. And of course the CWC is interfering, it's causing fixture congestion. And what if we get serious injuries that affect our league performance? Yes, the CL interferes too, but that is an important trophy - the CWC is meaningless. And you didn't answer my question - would you count the season a success if we came away with nothing other than a couple of fringe trophies?
Oh, and I've already said that I would willingly chuck everything else if it guaranteed us the league. Of course it doesn't, so we keep competing - but not to the extent of taking overblown PR stunts seriously.
I think you mean me there. I want to win but not at the expense of being entertained. Entertainment > trophies
The CWC may not be valued in England, or even in Europe, but it is valued across other continents and, like I mentioned in another thread, that's huge for our global appeal, brand building and expanding fanbase. Far more worthwhile competition than the Caribao cup, just not as important as our other competitions.
Ideally we'd win everything. Realistically though, two prizes are much bigger than any of the others. Win them all if you can, focus on the big prizes if you can't.
Ah sorry saint Just re read my post seems a bit ranty it not meant to be - I am just very excited about the fixture congestion Don’t know about the success thing I really really want to win the league but I understand that beating City is going to take a super human effort Not blaming the money but the money they have spent on their subs bench is amazing and I don’t begrudge it City I have long since said I believe everyone buys the title, some just do it quicker (see how easily I side track myself lol) I come down on the side of - brace yourself - I would consider it a success to win the super cup and WCC and nothing else this season but it’s just because of everything I have explained before I think Most other countries view the super cup and WCC as important. I don’t think any trophy should be devalued Imho you are in it to win it This priority thing is hard cause there are no guarantees - yes we could goto WCC and someone get injured and it cost us points but someone could slip in the shower and that happen. I do think we should play differing squads for the comps but the WCC should be something we should be proud to win it is the pinnacle, You see it as nothing more than a showpiece I see WCC super and shield as rewards for the effort the team has put in. I do not agree with runners up etc in CL it should be for winners only (happy to expand to cup winners but that is it for me) If someone wins double there should be no shield match I believe that it is not how you play the game but whether you win or lose, this whole sports day crap we have to put up with in schools is a joke. I don’t believe in win at all costs just play hard play fair and have the desire to win Then when it’s over go over a congratulate the victor I play three times a week at a low level now but I want to win I am gutted when I lose, just my thoughts Ps sorry for mistaking you for Z - like really sorry
Saint and Milk I answered yours Saint here’s mine for you both. Let’s say the team binned the ‘tin pots’ And go out early and refuse to play super cup and WCC and we come out with nothing anyway, would that be better than not achieving the tin pots. If FIFA put a kitty for say £200million for the winners you will very quickly see its profile rise and clubs will be fighting over it like they are with Prem and CL I actually understand where the premise of league being bread and butter comes from - however I still think money and luck have a lot to do with winning the league. Imho the best team does not always win the league, the most consistent team does and to me that is not the same thing, I know many disagree but it’s just how I see it. selecting which cups mean something is just something I don’t understand What’s the criteria ? Why CL over FA (I can make an argument for that one but then) Why FA over League Cup ? (More competitors ?) also one last thing Did you see Adrians face when he saved the pen Did you see the Chelsea players face when he missed It didn’t look like just a tin pot to those guys - they were elated/devastated to me how it should be.
