Played some great football, that Chelsea result was unbelievable Had we moved on from bent at that time or was he still here and never played
Not bothered about any of them There haven’t proved a point yet However that dosnt mean there Cannot start and shine
You can build a team around someone like that, his personality alone is a great addition to the club. Room to improve and bags of energy
I wouldn't be surprised if there isn't a player in world football who has done more diving headers than Luke this season. It's something you don't see very often usually but he does them as a matter of routine. He's good in the air in general which makes him stand out in our team.
I can't see Luke turning down a new contract. He hasn't done enough to warrant a PL sides interest. If the club offer him something, I'm sure he will sign.
Or a championship side imo. He's recently began to establish himself as a regular starter for us and we all love the lad but it doesn't go much beyond that at the moment.
Exactly this mate. He would be mad to go elsewhere. Unless a PL club were interested, which is extremely unlikely at this point in time.
I agree I think that would be very unlikely. He's an interesting player and he does have ability but he's a bit too much of a rough diamond at the moment to be making higher up clubs want to pull out their chequebooks. He's clearly as happy as a pig in **** to be playing for Sunderland and I'd be very surprised if he turned down a new contract.
From what I remember it was a bit more convoluted than that. The bid came in and Bent told Quinn he knew about it (he would because his agent was the agent of Villa's assistant manager). He then asked to speak to Villa and Quinn told him to put it in writing - which he did. Opinions differ about the driving thing here - Bent had apparently been angling to renegotiate his contract here as he was no longer the highest paid player and there was a feeling that he was playing 'chicken' with the club and they called his bluff. Possibly because they wanted the money? Whatever happened he signed for Villa so quickly he had to have been negotiating prior to the bid because they agreed everything in no time. The other thing is that from the press conference it looks like he regretted being there from the start. I actually watched the stream of the press conference on a Villa forum, and it was all 'welcome Benty' posts on the thread. Within minutes the first 'Dear God he looks like he's about to cry' post happened. After that it was just post after post remarking upon how depressed he looked and sounded, how it looked like he'd rather be anywhere but at the press conference. I know he saved them from relegation that season, but given how his career fizzled out there - it was a pretty sad outcome for everyone involved.
I never mentioned England squad side of things. If a team from the c'ship comes along and offers him more money he will be gone. in terms of crowds etc we are several times bigger than Bordeaux. Maja didnt hesitate despite him being adored for his free scoring ways. Just because we all think it's a great club doesnt mean players do. They want recognition, biggest money possible..the rest is all flim flam
I know you didn’t mention it as I did cause it was said at the time that it was said to him by the England manager, it’s was in some part that his head was turned and another reason to move on. It’s also one of the reasons it won’t happen to onien as he’s no way near the England team. Simple if you read my post properly Don’t think he’ll move to a championship team either as he’ll have an idea this club will get back there and then he’ll be playing at the biggest club in the championship.
We must've been watching the same match mate. Those 3 played very well on Saturday, it was some of the more experienced players who under performed, particularly second half. Thought Power did okay, and Dunc looked lively. Grigg worked hard up top. The rest were a bit iffy. Still 3 points though.
Agreed, the 3 players, we mentioned, stood out. A lot of people were unhappy, even after we'd won, but the way I see it, is we're a work in progress, and will hopefully improve, as the season goes on PP has fresh ideas, about how the way he wants us to play, and on a couple of occasions, a couple of promising attacks, broke down, because of a lack of understanding between players, getting accustomed to a different way of playing. We never looked in danger of conceding a goal, and our passing was generally good, as was our build up play, albeit, a tad slow, and drawn out. There is still plenty of work to be done until we are fully tuned in to PP's way of playing, but we'll hopefully improve and go on a winning run, to push us towards the top two spots.
