So my 2,000th post on this forum is going to be saying a big thank you to the unwashed! Not only did there victory over Stoke ensure that we stayed 4th it also ensured that we yet again have the best defence in the Premier League! Not only is it the best but the teams with the second best defensive record (5under1and, Man Utd and Villa) have conceded four goals to our two!

It really is a welcome change to have such a solid defence and long may it continue. Now if only we could score more goals, we might have turned one or two of those draws into victories. Now lets hope we can advance in the Carling Cup!

You just know we're now going to get humped by Forest shipping 5 goals because of this post!

Haha <laugh>. Super Timmy Krul probably won't be in goal. So we don't need to count it if they did score 5!

So if we play Elliott instead all goals scored against us won't count?? Pardew is missing a trick here. <laugh>

I'm just glad we have a scapegoat if the worst does happen! I'm liking the back peddle though, and the Krul excuse has gone into the memory just in case!

Just to get this clear regarding the last two posts. I want Sunderland to lose every single game they play, but I am looking at the positives from there result yesterday. Just a bit of fun.

Don't know about anyone else, but the toon doing well is more important than the mackems getting beat. If the price of a champions league place was that sunderland finished 5th, i'd take it in a heartbeat

Defo I don't really give a damn what Sunderland do. I've said for a long time that once you put the jokes to one side, I couldn't give two hoots about North East top dog. Its not exactly some massive acheivement. Certainly in all the years I've watched Newcastle, good and bad, I have only been interested in Sunderland come derby day. Of course I like to see them get beat and finish 17th every year if possible, and I do take a small interest as a fellow North East team. But I just don't get this little mini league between us and them. Mates that are mackems feel the same way and are embarrassed by Bruces obsession with it (actually they admit to being embarrassed by Bruce full stop). This north east top dog tag seems to have become popular amongst a younger generation and I must admit I do not understand it.

You want as much bragging rights as possible. I am sure you wind them up when we beat Sunderland and if we finish ahead of them they can't come back with the usual 'we finished higher than you'.

I may be shot at dawn (although dawn seems a bit early, can we make it 9ish instead) for saying this, but I genuinely want the North East teams to do well. I just want us to better than the others.

I'm proud to come from a 'footballing hotbed' and if the Mackems finish 2nd and us 1st It'd be an ideal season. Wishing relegation on them doesn't work for me, I love the derbies and I love the rivalry, but for me its a fairly amicable one.

Maybe its 'cause I'm from a fairly neutral area or 'cause I've been out of the country for most of the past 3 years, but I really don't mind the Mackems doing well, just as long as we're doing better!

Besides I ****ing hate Stoke, with a passion, seeing them getting beaten AND keeping us in 4th spot? Happy days!

I always wind my mackems mates up when we beat them. I am merciless in my stick. But I've never gloated about finishing above them. And to be fair they never said a word last year when they managed to eek ahead on the last day. I just view the so called North East Mini League as a bit embarrassing to both clubs. Mainly because in recent history the best it has involved is who finished higher in mid table!
