We definitely need to be buying lots more players in their late 30's. The current team is just not old enough with a few exceptions. Why are we wasting money on young talented players when we could be buying lots of old journeymen on huge salaries? Just because Chester is costing less than Sonko doesn't mean it's the right choice! Look at Hobbs and Zayette as another example. Ghilas and Stewart springs to mind. Waghorn on loan or Zaki on loan? If we want to be premier league we should be spending like premier league clubs, remember when we were premier league? We were throwing the cash around. When will this management wake up? As a wise man once said "You win nothing with kids"
There must be plenty of very experienced players available Teddy Sherringham has not had a club for ages. The first yard for him and other experienced players is in their head I would only worry about the second yard? Chris Hargreaves was on the radio the other day a decent offer and we could have him to play alongside Sherringham a dream combination.
Absolutley, we shouldn't buy a player unless he's 32 or older and can only run for 10 minutes. Then we'll start moving up the table and win the league, get back into the premier league, where next season we'll win it and the following year be the champions of Europe
said with tongue firmly in cheek however this is one of the reasons why I am enjoying watching the team this season. I am far more interested in seeing how this squad can evolve and improve (hopefully) than watching latest veteran rotate through for a final paycheck. I was a little disappointed with the Adebola signing that basis (an to a lesser degree McKenna but he is playing a useful role in the team). Our next two games are against the bottom 2. These are traditionally games where we underperform. It will be a measure of the how the youngsters are coming together as a team on how we do in them.
I think we need a blend of youth and more experienced players. I think all we are really lacking now is somebody about 28-33 years of age with Captain/Leadership qualities and who can make an agressive tackle to add so much needed grunt to our side.
i get the joke but it is what ive been hoping City would do after we went down from the Prem/ I said back then i wouldnt mind the Club becoming one of those teams that nurtures future talent ,especially British Talent . OK that would also include probably loosing the better players when they are making waves at 23-24 but it would build a rep' that european teams would notice. Tho we might be getting a few top 4 teams cast offs (but theres no shame in that is there) i'd loved it if we snagged that Liverpool kid Stirling ? is his name ?? defo one to watch!
I disagree, we are doing it the right way, building this club back up again, bringing in youngsters and building them up to become a complete player will benefit the club financially as well as getting them to that level. Why do we want players in late 30's? what 37, 38, 39 year olds? No thanks! People shot down Pearson when he signed big Del now you want more oldies?! Football today is about pace power and skill, we have that in a bundance. Brady Stewart Waghorn Cairney Rosenoir there the examples. Hobbs and Chester are very young but in the words of Ray Wilkins 'my word' they have a good future and im sure they will do very well for us! Stop moaning, UTT!
