According to the Sun Sven has used an ex army person to help team bonding. Well it worked by the looks of things. Lee Peltier said on saturday after the game they had some team bonding sessions which helped the team and saturday showed they the team spirit which wasnt there last season because of all the loans is there this season. Saturday was our best performance so far but there was still plenty of room for improvement but it was a step in the right direction. So if things like this helps then we should do it more often http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport/football/3821213/Leicester-1-Brighton-0.html
7 points from 9 in our last 3 games!! 2 of those games against the top of the table teams in Southampton and Brighton! Now when you look at it from that perspective we are making good progress? and should not fear anyone.....
Interesting stat proud, i'd not thought about it like that i have to admit. Def, def, def a vast improvement on the Barnsley display, but as you rightly say, still room for a bit more. If only we could have held on to the points at florist, we would have been 2 closer to the top, and they would be 1 closer to the bottom.Having said that, im still looking forward to going to work today lol...................
Now the squad has settled and no more new players coming in people are gelling and the results will come. We will only get better with Nugent and Gallagher to return
Ironically the Sun gives us an accurate summary of the match... If you're being trained by the army then the chances are your fitness will improve, and that looked the case on Saturday. The big difference was the tempo and the willingness to work their socks off. This also led to a lack of tired, hopeful long balls which have marred our previous performances. There are still things to improve on, but I think one of the main one is actually one of the easiest to resolve - and that's being more clinical in the final third. We got the ball into some decent areas but sometimes the final ball was slightly off and we had quite a few half chances on the break that we didn't make the most of. We have some good attacking players now though, Beckford, Nugent, King and Vassell will make these count in time. As some suggested before, we were certainly helped by Brighton's attacking style, they did push a lot of players forward, especially in the second half and we took advantage of the game being stretched. It will be interesting to see if we can solve our creativity issues against sides that put men behind the ball as we have struggled against those sides so far. But the most important thing is to take the team spirit, patience and tempo into the game on Tuesday and more importantly Saturday. I haven't seen Cardiff this season but they have played open attacking football in recent seasons so hopefully this will suit us again. If MacKay has made them more organised and solid then we'll have to deal with that too.
I think the movement of Beckford and Vassell up front was too good for Brighton. I only thing Vassell lacks is the killer instinct in front of goal but when David Nugent returns him and Beckford will be class up front with Vassell as an impact sub
I think Sven is more likely to go back to 4-3-3 when Nugent returns, hes yet to drop Vassell to the bench.
At home we have to play 442. But away the 4-3-3 might work better with the pace of Nugent, Beckford and Vassell
We should never play 4-3-3 again, home or away. It shouldn't make any diference what ground we are at, on a football pitch we are 5 times better with a 4-4-2 than a 4-3-3, it's as simple as that and the facts and performances back that up. I am not convinced Sven has seen the light yet though.
Agreed but I too think that Sven will go for the 3 up front. He does seem to like that formation. If Nugent came back tommorow, I'd probably put him on the bench and tell him to earn his place up front because Vassell and Beckford are playing well at the moment.
Just saw the post match interview with Sven, he talks about his "excitement" to play Vassell and Nugent on the wings with Beckford down the middle. Looks like it will be back to 4-3-3 ....
With the front 3 of Beckford, Nugent and Vassell it wont be as bad but they are all decent strikers but the problem will be their will be no cover
You just said it. They are all strikers. Vassell and Nugent are NOT wingers so they shouldn't play there. They should rotate based on form.
^ i echo you. however, nugent last season looked great coming off the right. but 4-4-2 works- keep it!
I think we will go 442. Sven rates Michael Johnson really highly and i cant see him not playing once he is fit.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/l/leicester_city/9593801.stm I'm guessing you mean that interview. I didn't hear anything about a front three and the only reference to formation was him and Stringer praising the diamond. In fact, about 1:10 in, he seems to suggest he sees Nugent and Beckford up front as a two in the future.
Was the sit down interview on the website. http://www.lcfc.com/articles/20110919/eriksson-on-brighton-win_2264710_2455825 Says that Nugents used to playing wider and Vassell has pace (pace does not automatically equal good winger!), and Beckford can only play down the middle.
