    don’t think it’s Irish i thought Catholic. In Spain after Halloween they have the day of the dead. Families go visit their dead relatives and have picnics at the cemetery. Then a big fiesta on the night.

    Don't a few countries have a day off the dead thing?

    I'm thinking S.American countries, so your Spanish theory could be correct.

    I thought it was Scottish, at least the direct ancestor of American style Halloween.

    I know the Pumpkin carving is (although they used Turnips) and begging people for stuff seems a very Scottish thing to do.
