I've no chance of going but hope everyone is rewarded for their patience with a win. 3-0 for me and another '90 minute' performance.
3-0 and a comfy win I reckon. BUT, anything other than this, even a draw , and i reckon PP will be under real pressure!! it’s a must win!!! Bart
Injured - according to the Echo Phil Parkinson has confirmed that Laurens De Bock and Alim Ozturk could return to the Sunderland squad for the Leasing.com Trophy tie against Leicester City. The defensive duo have both returned to training at the Academy of Light this week, but are not expected to feature in the League One clash with Southend United. Instead, they are set to continue training over the course of the weekend ahead of a potential return against the Foxes’ second string. “Alim and De Bock have both trained this week,” confirmed Parkinson. “They need some work and they’re going to be training over the weekend with a view to Tuesday night’s game.”
I saw De Bock in his first game and he was excellent, solid as a rock with a bit of class. Should be competition there as I think Hume's been playing well.
Still abroad so miss the game, so it will be Flashscores alerts for me. Fingers crossed for a nice comfortable home win to get the season back on track. We need to hang on in there and hopefully strengthen in January to get the players in to get us out of this division.
When De Bock is fit he should be 1st choice LB. Hume in my opinion is better attacking. Normally teams up well with McGeady.
The back four of McLaughlan, Lynch, Willis and De Bock gave us our only clean sheet of the season. As usual injury ruled out a repeat and fluctuating form has cast some doubts. But both Hume and O/9 are ideal attacking players from the wide midfield areas and give us options with their versatility, so it could be that all are involved in one way or another during the course of a game.
McGeady could be played in the central role behind the striker, his defensive role is minimal, and his delivery from wide is so slow, we need pace in the outfield, especially in the wide areas.
early start for me tomorrow.. Celebrate England's rugby world cup victory then a few beers to oil my voice box before the game.. Ha'way the lads..
Just want a win....any sort of one will do. 1 - 0.....to 10 - 1.....works. After good news over the last few days I hope the lads don't do a 'Sunderland' and we get beat to add another kick in the nads that adds to the collection of many....... Should look at it as new beginnings both off the field and on it.....onwards and upwards.
We are clearly approaching games with a complete different mind set. I expect it to continue Saturday and fully expect us to beat these lot comfortably, maybe by 3/4 goals. I honestly think Parkinson will take us up in second place, just gotta convert some of the numerous clear chances we are now getting and build up some momentum. A little confidence and this squad has enough for promotion, imo.
Confidence is so important in any walk of life and if PP can instill the confidence that the squad that has been lacking that's half the battle
Sunderland are back in league action this weekend when they face Southend United at the Stadium of Light. Taking place on Saturday at 3pm, the Black Cats will continue their long-standing support for the Armed Forces and associated charities. Serving military personnel, veterans’ groups and families of those who have lost their lives in the service of their country will all attend the game, and there will be a traditional period of silence before kick-off. As for the action on the pitch, Sunderland will be gunning to get back to winning ways after being edged out in each of their last two games in all competitions. Phil Parkinson’s side created a host of chances at both Shrewsbury Town last Saturday and then again at Oxford United in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday, but managed to score just one goal from Marc McNulty. Having lost to Jason Cummings’ effort last weekend, the Black Cats were then knocked out of the Carabao Cup on penalties after going behind and doing so well to fight their way back into the encounter. The Stadium of Light, though, provides comfort to the lads as they’re unbeaten on home turf this season and have lost there just once in the last 18 months. In Sunderland’s last home match – Parkinson’s Wearside debut – the lads romped to victory as they put on a five star show to dismantle Tranmere Rovers and record their biggest home win for 21 years. Parkinson will remain without trio Lee Burge, Charlie Wyke and Lynden Gooch for this weekend’s clash, but Chris Maguire will return to the fold after being suspended in midweek. Joel Lynch has recovered from a bang to his knee while Duncan Watmore is a doubt after picking up a virus. Southend, meanwhile, travel to the north east in search of their first points under new boss Sol Campbell. After working wonders at Macclesfield Town last season and keeping them up in League Two, the former Arsenal defender has gone into Roots Hall to try and turn the Essex-based club’s fortunes around. Currently second bottom, with just one win from their opening 15 games. Campbell’s side are eight points adrift already and have previously collected just one point from a possible 18. Supporters attending the game on Saturday are kindly asked to arrive early as the club holds its annual Remembrance commemorations. please log in to view this image
