Well done to the Derby County owner. Keogh was on £24,000 a week, and faces up to 16 months out after his self inflicted injury. Why should the club pay the irresponsible piss head over £1m in the next year ? The player himself is said to be in a state of shock, and needless to say the PFA are bleating tonight about his ‘uman rights. Well done Derby County - fvck player power
What a sad way to end a long career at Derby. Even if he never plays football again because of his knee injury, Keogh should be thankful he is still alive, and that his injuries - and those of his boozed up mates - were not worse.
Whilst I agree with you, sacking the injured older passenger when the 2 younger fit drivers are back playing smacks of double standards, surely sack the 3 of them or none?
Good call. I suppose the Derby Owner's principles are tempered by an unwillingness to lose the value and talents of all three players. The Club might argue that Keogh was the senior man present and should have behaved responsibly, acted more like a 'captain' even though he and the others were on their own time.
As the Doc says, double standards applying here... the two younger drink drivers were fined 6 weeks wages by the club (by younger I mean people who have a sell on value) yet the person who was not driving and not taken to Court by the Police is sacked because he will be 35 by the time he is playing again. Derby have said this... The Championship club said in a statement that they had "completed the disciplinary hearing regarding Richard Keogh in respect of his involvement in the events of Tuesday, 24 September" and that his contract had been "terminated with immediate effect". "As we have said from the outset, the club will not tolerate any of its players or staff behaving in a manner which puts themselves, their colleagues, and members of the general public at risk of injury or worse, or which brings the club into disrepute," they said. Derby will not tolerate it unless the player has a sell on value! The PFA will appeal this decision and win.
Agreed but Charlton were guilty of similar double standards when two promising youth players were found to have canabis in their bloodscreen some years back, they sacked the **** one (Jamie Stuart) but stood by the promising one who went on to have a successful career before returning to manage the club.
Banned by the FA for six months and went on to play for Millwall https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jamie_Stuart
