Apparently Klopp chose Lovren over Gomez against Spurs because Lovren's currently "got rhythm", whatever that means. I'm not sure that Lovren is playing quite the same tune as the rest of the defence though - perhaps it's a cover version. Matip's vast improvement over the last year means he has overtaken Gomez in the pecking order. I don't hate Lovren like you do, but I still think Joe is the better option. Klopp has his reasons, and I respect that, but I hope it's just that Gomez needs to get back up to speed a bit.
Lovren have his own weaknesses, but he is more experienced than Gomez. I cannot see Lovren here after next summer. The future belongs to Gomez, he has to be patience.
LFC injury update: News on Matip, Salah and Shaqiri Liverpool will tread carefully with Joel Matip's current knee issue, while Xherdan Shaqiri is ruled out until after the November international break. Matip has missed the past two matches due to the injury and requires further time before he is considered for a return to the team. Shaqiri has been sidelined since September with a calf problem and is not expected to come back into contention until next month. “Shaq will only be back after the international break,” assistant manager Pepijn Lijnders told Liverpoolfc.com at Melwood. “We want to give him the time. With a calf injury it is always very high risk, especially with his calves. “Joel’s knee is still irritated – we need to give him time. I don’t know the exact time he will need but it will really need time to heal.” Lijnders also provided an update on Mohamed Salah after the Reds forward was withdrawn in the closing stages of Sunday’s win over Tottenham Hotspur. “Mo is fine,” said the Dutchman. “Towards the end of the game it is more precaution because the ankle gets more tired and he feels it a little bit more and we have to take him off. But he is fine, he is good. “All the others are fit, hungry and ready to go.” Pepijn Lijnders Joel Matip Xherdan Shaqiri Mohamed Salah
Liverpool v Arsenal: Team news Caoimhin Kelleher is in line to start Liverpool's Carabao Cup fourth-round tie with Arsenal on Wednesday, but the Reds will continue to be without Joel Matip and Xherdan Shaqiri. https://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/first-team/370929-liverpool-arsenal-team-news-carabao-cup
agreed. I think Gomez has been very rusty since coming back from injury which is understandable but he needs games to get that rhythm. I don’t understand the logic of giving Lovren more game time, someone who makes just as many mistakes, and doesn’t have a future here.
And to think that we were on the verge of letting Lovren go - would have left us with only 2 fit CB’s and one of those is out of form. Rest everyone for this game. We are about to enter mad season. We need to rest or we will suffer
