I think by now you all know what I want this forum to be about, Football fans debating their team, some fun and some serious. A big part or footy up here is the rivalry with Newcastle and long may it continue. Sadly we will always get posters on either side who just go that bit to far, I simply dont accept that we dont know when banter decomes nusance. We moderators do all we can to encourage banter, I find some of the banter and the words used to be unhelpful and not needed but each to their own. All that said when complaint after complaint comes in about one person it becomes obvious that the line has been crossed, that happened today with .....Forum Trolling Mackem Wrestling Ninja...and sadly he has been banned for 7 dys from this site. If and when he comes back he will hopefully follow the spirit of this forum, if not a life ban is always the option. Lets make sure we all do our bit to keep to that spirit.
Sorry you had to do that syd, but at least youve given gim a fair chance, hopefully he will respond with a little bit of humility and dignity.
Just to add i backed syd 100% on this, we discussed it, and whilst under discussion several more posts were added, and the clincher an article which was basically the word c**ts. As you all know, little offends me personally, but i can totally see why people were getting annoyed with this lad, it's the last thing any of us wanted to do, but we felt it appropriate, given that it was getting to a point when some of our regular posters were talking about leaving the site. Hopefully this will be a one off.
Sad thing to have to do, but I can fully understand your reasons behind it, so you have my support on this one. From a personal point of view, he didn't bother me that much with his tone, but he was interupting some interesting threads with his daft carry on. I don't think he's a bad lad, just maybe a little immature?
I know that you don't want censorship as such, but that kid was being so puerile. It will put sensible people off, I'm afraid. Like our own little doughnut, too many sweeties and too many E-numbers. You have all made a wise decision.
Maybe a Moderation sticky to let our posters know what is going on and why certain threads or posts have been deleted Syd? Dorset was asking in Siddals bar about something along the same lines.
Don't get me wrong guys, I'm not after a detailed explanation about your reasons, just something along the lines of Thread Removed: "What ever it may be" Reason: Abusive I take the view that if you have to act, it is for very good reason that should not require a detailed explanation to us members.
I'm all for this as well, we certainly don't want to be removing posts, andd we'll be more than happy to explain and fully justify if we do
The ban was a reaction to several complaints from members of our forum, the role of moderator is to ensure that 'the majority' are happy, as we can never please everyone. You will be welcome back onto the board in 7 days time, and we welcome banter, but surely you can see how an article which is posted simply to call people c**nts was seen as inflamatory? I'd suggest you pm syd for a response, as it's likely this 'alter ego' of your will also be banned, or else it's a folly.
Seems a fair and balanced decision gentlemen - not like it's for life. A time for reflection hopefully. But please not more Sticky's!!!! its getting hard enough to keep a thread in view already before it drops into the thread graveyard that is page 2. . . .
I tend to agree with this. I dont want us to make a big thing of the problemd, prefer we concentrate on all the good things
Keep up the good work Syd, nothing like a goods bit of banter with whoever, we just don't need things to get nasty or personal
Syd if you hadn't noticed i did a runner from that article, as it was making my blood boil, and if i had started, i would end up getting banned, mellowing comes with age, had it been a few years ago i would be wading in, but as ever, even from the 606 days you have always been level headed, i can only remember you upset a couple of times well done mate.
