Erm: Harold Wilson? Set up the OU, set up Business Parks in the North of England to stimulate the economy of many a northern town and city.

On Corbyn, it’s probably partly down to charisma. He doesn’t come across as having very much and many people (not all, but a lot) pay more attention to Personality than they do policy and integrity.

It's become very presidential hasn't it? The trouble is we have the world we live in, not the one we would like. A good 70% of the population probably are far more interested in dancing, cooking and singing shows. It's become far more the case especially in recent years that politicians are judged on image. I have absolutely no doubt that Corbyn is a sincere politician and Pfeffel is a fat fraud. Sadly the dosn't cut much ice in this particular century.

It will be interesting to see if the LD/SNP election motion outmanoeuvres Pfeffel. For the first time we have the potential prospect of them being put on the back foot.

The ultra-low level that is being reached by far right Brexiteers when they crowdfund contract killers to end Gina Miller's life, the businesswoman who has taken the far from legitimate EU referendum to court, several times:

Chilcs posted it earlier. Disgusting. I don’t think we can say All far right brexiteers, but clearly some despicable people out there.

Yes they do. Tony Benn always argued that politics should be about principles not personalities, and in a mature democracy it absolutely should .

So, assuming that you agree that politics has now become about personalities over politics should we choose leaders on the basis of their electability? Clearly in 2017 Corbyn's disadvantage in that area was more than compensated by the Maybot. In the current situation do we not need a Benn or a Starmer? Sadly in a few months we will probably see Corbyn replaced by Rebecca Long-Bailey, another non personality politician.

The question is not that Corbyn is unelectable, but how the hell is Johnson electable?

Indeed, not all. It is never "all" If it is all far right Brexiteers, I will say "all far right Brexiteers."

For example, if one refers to "football supporters" in a particular context. It doesn't refer to all football supporters. Just selected ones. It is shorthand. When one means all football supporters, one writes "all football supporters."

One could perhaps accept that a message could have been interpreted that way..... :emoticon-0105-wink:

... and in the second case, one could have just said straight away, “of course I didn’t mean all” rather than carry on a justification of the statement.

Or one could just let it go :)

Sadly, parties probably do need to do this. The figure head needs to be seen as charismatic, media friendly and have the right sound bites for social media. Look at Farage. The man has charisma. I think he is a greasy snake, but he can hold court in a room full of people. During the referendum campaign he was diverted from a rally in Northampton due to protests and ended up in my local pub, jug of ale in hand. They loved him. I wish I’d know he was there at the time, as I’d have gone and tested his charm and charisma, but like him or loathe him, he smooches people better than someone like Corbyn.

It’s the crazy world we now live in.

I am going to be very interested to listen to and see how my 18 year old son votes at his first election. For years you could see the influence of living with me and his mum has had in some of his views, but in the last year or so, he is becoming his own man. He’s been working part time for a couple of years and now full time for a couple of months. Different influences. He is affected by what he reads on social media and treats most of what he reads as fact.

    Let’s see what he does.

Are the Lib Dems and SNP crazy? It is madness to have an election leading up to Christmas, and also immoral at a time when people are busy with other matters. If Johnson is so confident of winning, he should wait until May. He might do well to recall the demise of Heath who baited the country with "Who rules the country, the elected Government, or the Unions?" It was great that it backfired on him.

I am of the belief, based on past evidence, that only a Labour Government can start the healing process of this divided country, and in my lifetime they did it three times - Wilson twice, and Tony Blair.

Well it looks like it's going to be December 9th. Pfeffel is going to cave in to the LD/SNP proposal. My fear is a real hammering for Labour with potentially their lowest number of seats for nearly a century. I sincerely hope I'm wrong because I really want to see them get over 200 seats. My personal problem is that I live in a constituency where Labour are a distant but not hopeless second with the LD's not that far behind. I would vote Labour if I thought they had a chance of winning but realistically I do think the LD's are going to be the challenger so I will probably put my vote there.

When did we ever have an election on a Monday?
Blair’s healing process of course involved lying to us and dragging us into a ruinous war, which killed 4,600 British and US soldiers and upwards of a million innocent Iraqi citizens. It also led directly to the emergence of Daesh.

    War criminal.
