I think Emery has a mindset that is good for a "Small" team. He really plays a style like say Leicester when they won the league. It is great when people attack you, and when you are home and the visitors are under pressure mentally. When they are confident and they play a more conservative game, making you attack them, the press falls apart. If you have a team full of pressing players and you have nothing to press, then the game goes away from your strengths. It is your ball retention and creativity that is examined, and right now we get an F. My big problem with Emery is that at least with Wenger we played attractive football and we won games looking good. I look at us under Emery and we look like a Championship team punching above our weight in the league. Even when we win, we look like we were lucky. That isn't a team I want to watch or support, and it isn't Arsenal. Even under George Graham , in the 1-0 days, when the football we played was robust, we still looked like we deserved to win, because the opposition couldn't score against us. I don't want Mourinho or Pullis, because that defensive style is past its time now. Klopp and Pep are both more like Wenger in mentality, they are more about attacking and making your opponent worry about defending. They are the ones having the success right now. Let's emulate them, not the defensive mentality that is no longer effective.
Stick Freddie in charge. He looks intelligent, is good looking and hasn't got **** hair which immediately makes him better qualified for the job than Emery.
What argument ? I've made a few points on this but the overall point I've made is that Emery is not good enough we need to be proactive with sacking him he's not going to improve us in the slightest
Why does it have to be either or? It shouldn't be binary. We have the players that are good enough to play with style and get good results. We're not getting either. Rodgers has been at Leicester for 7 months and he's already got them playing more exciting football, whilst getting better results, than we have.
I think Mourinho is the last thing we need right now. He always leaves a toxic stench no matter where he goes. And hiring someone like that will not get us to where we want to be. Managers like Mourinho are a dying breed. We need someone progressive and forward-thinking.
Both would be nice, but like I said at this point in time I'm more concerned with whether we get top 4 or not.
I recall mentioning Brendan Rodgers.. People on here laughed at me, maybe because he does not a foreign sounding name! I have said it before, Emery is Wenger-lite and get top4 or not, he has to leave..
The dilemma is this. If we are going to play bland football, fine, but we need to compensate the lack of entertainment for competitive results. If we are going to play bland football and not get good results, then that is a huge issue because there is no enjoyment in anything we do. Currently, we fall into the latter category. I know there are reports saying Edu, Sanllehi and Vinai are satisfied with Emery so far. But they cannot be blind to what they're seeing on the pitch and the fans rapidly turning against him.
For me it comes down to results this season. Arsenal need to get back into the CL and that's Emery's task. If he fails then he should expect to be replaced. The only reason I would show emery the door right now, is if Allegri had agreed to join us.
But can we afford to go another year without CL football? Surely, if we can see things aren't working out or we're off the pace but still have a chance of getting into the CL midway through the campaign, the appropriate thing to do would be to get rid and bring someone in who can revitalise the players whilst we are still in contention? The only argument I've seen against sacking Emery is that they don't want Arsenal to become 'too ruthless' like Chelsea.
Depends on who is available and could get us into the CL I suppose. It's a risky strategy sacking a manager mid season and then bringing in somebody new, with different methods, training, philosophy etc. As it would take the players a while to bed in to the new regime anyway.
This is true, however, I would argue it is better to take that risk than flounder in mediocrity which, if we're being honest, is where we are heading unless we see a drastic transformation. Like I said, with the players we have, there are no reasons why we shouldn't be creating more chances, scoring more goals and defending better. I know you said you prefer substance over style, but an improvement in our style of play would yield better results, in my opinion.
Anyone who manages a squad with Auba, Pepe, Laca and Ozil yet with a quarter of the season gone gets outscored by Villa and Burnley and has a goal difference of +1 needs getting rid of.
I think we should be doing better with the players we've got. But I don't think sacking the manager mid season would help. There's only a couple of scenarios where I'd entertain that. (1) If Allegri wanted to come to Arsenal (2) We were floundering in the bottom half of the table. As it is though we are 5th, and in a decent position to challenge for the top 4. Emery should be given until the end of the season to try and achieve his target of Top 4, if he fails then there's justification to replace him.
Tbh I’d take Wenger as caretaker manager until the end of the season with a view to bring in someone like Allegri when the season is over. I’ve lost faith in Emery, he’s just too frustrating with his strange team selections and lack of any obvious style and direction. As much as I’d like to say we give him until the end of the season to see if he can get us top four, we just seem to be getting worse and worse at the moment. I said a month or so ago, give him until January and if we aren’t in the top four he needs to be sacked.
Being in a 'decent position to challenge for top 4' is not something to be proud of with this squad. He should be clear in the top 4. We're not moving up the table and progressing towards top 4. We play **** football, are **** at attacking and scoring, are **** at defending and are **** at winning games. We've played **** football all season and aren't top 4 and aren't moving towards it either. Floundering consistently in 5th/6th just like last season.
As if anyone gives two ****s about stupid avatar bets compared to real life football. I doubt even PISKIE and HIAG genuinely care about their own forum spats let alone everyone else who get their forum filled up with that ****e.
