Just a reminder that, back in 2010, people followed your advice of holding their noses and voting Lib Dem to stop the Tories getting in - which not only served to get the Tories in, but they had the Lib Dems voting through every last item on their agenda for five years That's why they lost 85% of their MPs in 2015, and that's also why they're trying to pretend that a third of their MPs have never stood as a Lib Dem MP
I am talking only about constituencies where Labour has no chance. That means the number of LibDem and Tory MPs in total doesn't change so it can't help the Tories get in. There were a lot of constituencies in 2010 where the Tory majority over the LibDem was less than the Lab vote. If those Lab voters had voted LibDem then the Tories would have had fewer seats than Labour and Gordon Brown would have stayed as PM. And what was the result of petulantly not voting LibDem in 2015...a majority Tory government.
But if every Lib Dem voter held their noses and voted Labour, Labour would have a chance, for example... Carshalton & Wallington: current Lib Dem majority 1369, but if every Lib Dem voter voted Labour then Labour would have a majority of over 10,000 Oxford West & Abingdon: current Lib Dem majority 816, but if every Lib Dem voter voted Labour then Labour would have a majority of over 8000 Westmorland & Lonsdale: current Lib Dem majority 777, but if every Lib Dem voter voted Labour then Labour would have a majority of over 5500 while also having an MP who doesn't miss key votes as he's speaking at a gay cure conference in Wales Brecon & Radnorshire: current Lib Dem majority 1425, but if every Lib Dem voter voted Labour then Labour would have a majority of over 3000 More important than anything else, though, is one key flaw in your argument: the Lib Dems are not moderates. Moderates don't welcome Tory MPs into their party with open arms, nor do they look to nick votes off Labour in Tory marginals. More important than anything else, Moderates aren't proof of just how far to the right the centre ground has moved in recent decades - but the Lib Dems are
Yes, I get all that but it renains the case that a LibLab coalition is the best we can hope for. There is exactly no chance of Labour winning Oxford West because most of the LibDem voters wouldn't touch Labour with a barge pole for exactly the reasons you mention. So I just want to keep the Tory out. If we had ATV my preference would be 1 Green, 2 Labour, 3 LibDem bit the Greens don't stand here to maximise the chance of defeating the Tory.
Carshalton and Wallington. That brings back memories. My nan would get totally ticked off with her old man and go stay with the Whiteheads there.I can't remember the address.I guess they've probably all gone now. Mum would take me to visit.I loved it! I rode the trams to Tooting Broadway and then a route 80 Daimler to Carshalton. I'm old but still remember umpteen years ago....but can't remember what I did yesterday!!!!!?
Bad news for England Rugby, the Kiwis are considering appointing Corbyn as their new coach who will demand that the All Blacks remain in the Rugby World Cup, and block all routes to the stadium in Tokyo, until the governing bodies agree that the semi final is decided over two legs. Allegedly, they didn't know what England's tactics would be before the game.
Meanwhile, the Conservatives turn up in lacrosse gear, insisting that the final was always going to be lacrosse and everyone knew that.
While also demanding to leave in the group stage because they set a date and wouldn't budge, especially after commissioning some 50p coins commemorating the date
News from the White House. "General Kelly was fired from his job because he couldn't cope with Trump's genius!" What idiot writes this crap?
Because the Trump regime wasn't farcial enough, Rudy Giuliani's asscheeks have landed them in hot water https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/po...-reporter-heard-discussing-need-cash-n1071901
I love the report that Rudy had phoned a reporter by mistake and told him (accidently!) what he was getting up to and needed several 100,000 dollars for.....? We should change the name White House to the Insane Asylum.
Spot of bother at the People's Vote campaign: Roland Rat Rudd looked to seize control of the campaign not to make the message clearer, but because he has plans to turn it into a pro-business "liberal" party which would split the Remain vote and the main victims of this would be Labour, but of course suggesting this so much as three months ago would've had you dismissed as a conspiracy theorist by the FBPE foghorns who were so supportive of prominent PV members such as...Alastair Campbell and Tom Watson And yes, in case you were wondering, Roland is the brother of Amber Rudd
A moment's silence for whoever it is who draws up the ballot papers in South Cambridgeshire, as they've surely got a case of PTSD right now given their incumbent MP's remarkably busy year January 1st: Tory February 20th: The Independent Group Ltd/Change UK Ltd/The Independent Group For Change Ltd July 10th: The Independents} (yes, that } is supposed to be there) October 7th: Lib Dem October 29th: retiring from politics Of course, this decision coming a day or two after she once again did the crocodile tears act and said how bad austerity is in spite voting it through countless times and was called out on it may be related...
Can you imagine a sitting President turning up at America's game, game 5 of the World Series,to hear the crowd chanting "Lock Him Up! Lock Him Up!" Aaahhhhh! Well done people!!
I would have posted a clip, but it contained a couple of seconds of baseball and that would've caused the entire board to fall into a boredom-induced coma
I enjoy baseball (hate grid-iron and basketball!). Nice way to pass an evening with a couple of hot dogs and beers. Although I did have my first heart attack watching my Phillies in Cincinatti.! They carried me off to hospital and I missed the Phillies coming from behind to win the game. Ticked me off!!!!! That was in Aug 2000.
