After the start Ade has had i think all Spurs fans will agree we have found what was missing last season. If the form continues do you think we'll be able to afford his wages next year or will he take a cut for regular football??
I think that depends on Adebayor. We can almost certainly afford the transfer fee; however, unless he is prepared to substantially lower his wage demands, then No.
There are two stumbling blocks: 1. If Levy has been clever he will have arranged a buy on clause, if not I can see City being reluctant to sell him to us if he has a good season. 2. If we don't make top 4, I don't imagine he will desperately want to stay, and if he does stay he will probably have to half his wages at least.
Yes you all seem to agree with eachother, just hope something can be sorted if he continues in this form, because he seems to have brought Defoe back to life aswell.
It was easily as good as any of Greaves' quotes! As for Adebayor, it may well be the case that we are better having him for only one season. Things seem to go wrong for him after one good season with a club. What his being here will definitely prove to Levy, however, is how desperately we have been missing a striker of his quality. I think it will sound the death-knell for Pav, as it did for Crouch. If Ade does leave us next season, you can rest assured the board is already working on getting in someone like him.
Not a case of if we can afford him I think but whether he'll want to join us permanently. I doubt he'd want to considering he'd have to half his wages to stay within our wage cap. There'll be others able to offer him a competitive package if he performs well.
Don't count on it, we didn't see a massive increase in wages the last time we had CL so there's no reason to expect it if we get CL again...
So you wouldn't reward the other players that got us there just spend the windfall on one player? Not the Levy way I think.
We got Champions league football the once and Levy didn't raise the cap. He had the chance to really invest and attract top talent but he decided not to. What makes you think he'd be willing to raise it if we did once more? You'd have the agents of Bale & Modric certainly jumping for parity should that happen.
Mentioned because it adds to the reasons as to why Levy would most likely avoid the move of raising the cap at that stage. Something so far he has been reluctant to do. Since you're talking of hypotheticals though, I could be just as wrong, he may and I'd welcome it. Good to see he's bringing the best of Defoe back out.
I think a lot will depend upon whether or not we keep Harry for another season. Whatever anyone says about the old boy, there are a lot of top players who want to play for him. Look at how he's managed to settle Modric. Wenger couldn't do that with Fabregas. Harry always seems to bring the best out in his players. I mean, even GDS has stuck around when he could have done a Taarabt and buggered off to another club for regular football; but he stayed, and now Harry seems to be rewarding him. This could be a make-or-break season for the lad, and I know that there are a fair few of us who are desperate for him to make the step up. Who's to say that Ade won't flourish under Harry and have the best year of his career? I think that would weigh heavily in his mind when deciding whether or not to stay with us.
This is a bit unfair on Wenger, Fabregas had been wanting to return to Barca for 3 years and Wenger still managed to keep him without a word of complaint. I'd be very surprised if Modric is with us in 2 years time.
Because, according to official figures (from season before last I think) Spurs spend about £50m A YEAR less than Arsenal, for instance, on wages. Our wages are a lot less than the other top EPL teams. To bring the likes of Bale, VDV, Modric, even the likes of Lennon, Defoe, King, Gallas etc up to the levels of those clubs will be a massive undertaking. You can't just have one (or even two or three) earning three or more times as much as the other players.
