That's what I was inferring when I said they weren't flying.
We went down to 9 men mostly because we were poor in possession. Adam's 2 bookings came from sloppy play and losing the ball; Skrtel's because he couldn't handle Bale in an unfamiliar role.

yes the perfectly rational thing is not to look at the 4 games where by and large we looked very solid and played good football, including some matches more comparable to what the home game against wolves will be like, and instead look at a highly unusual away game against a top 4 contender where we had no right back, had another injury in defence and had 2 men sent off.

That's some highly rational thinking there.

He says it will be only man utd and man city that you have to be worried about, but its not like they are just challenging for the top 4 are they?

No, because we have 2, possibly 3, injured right backs. They won't be injured for the entire season will they? Kelly will be back next week, and Johnson in October. Flanagan was also carrying a knock. How often are all 3 out at once? No team in the PL has enough right backs to cover 3 injuries. United have Smalling there when Fabio isn't fit, Man City have Richards and Zabaleta, Chelsea have Ivanovic, Bonsingwa and Ferreira.

Robinson is an inexperienced left back, so Kenny obviously felt Skrtel was a better option.

Robinson has rarely played on the left for the first team, let alone the right. While he looks a good player and did well in that handful of games he had last season, Kenny obviously felt he needed more experience there. Wrong choice? Maybe.
Carragher will be picked next week. I don't necessarily agree with it, but he will. If Agger isn't fit, Skrtel will play next to him. Kelly will be back on the right.

He is, as is Adam, for the Brighton game. The ban is for one game and applies to all competitions. Both will be back versus Wolves.

Looking at both the bench and in the first team, I think it's clearly obvious that we need a midfielder who can win the ball. Lucas' tackling has improved tenfold, but at the same time the lad isn't a holding midfielder. He's someone who is box-to-box and needs to have that free role to drift, alongside someone who can win the ball.

Unfortunately Adam for me wasn't what we should've been looking for. Full marks for being Scottish and delivering set pieces, but he just reminds me of a poor Danny Murphy. Don't get me wrong, I liked Murphy as a squad player but he had the likes of Gerrard and Hamann to compete with. This ultimately led to him improving and fighting for the cause to be in the first 11.

It seems that until January at least, Adam will be pretty much in the first team alongside Gerrard and Lucas. He gives the ball away abit too much for my liking, and I noticed this at Blackpool too. His lack of backtracking isn't a positive either.

Think out of everyone so far, and the least likely to in my opinion, best signing wise has been Enrique. Even at 3-0 the lad was still trying to bomb forward and seemed like the only player who could be arsed.

Downing, Henderson, Pepe(unusual for him), Skrtel (wrong position, but hey what can we do?), Lucas and Carroll were all massively below par and need to ask themselves if they can step up next week.

Suarez just had a bad day at the office, which judging by his attitude at certain decisions we may just have to live with in order to sacrifice it for games of pure quality in the future.

Unsure why Kuyt wasn't playing ahead of Carroll today, as the latter didn't appear to have the energy levels nor enthusiasm to keep up with the game.

Adam's sending off was foolish. Ok, first yellow was debatable but the lad knew he'd been booked and his second tackle was probably worthy of a red too.
Still confused about Skrtel's second booking, but oh well, let's move onto the next game.

We're going to have to accept that some performances won't be what we expect. It doesn't mean we're utter dog turd, it doesn't mean we're going to win nothing, it just means that under a decent management structure we've got plenty of work to do.
Being years behind United and now City is difficult to accept, but it's something we have to in order to move on. I've got faith in Dalglish re-establishing our place amongst Europe's cash cow, but the bloke needs time and plenty of it. The players as mentioned, need to watch their performances again tonight and stick that in their heads. Perhaps then they can remember they have no right to put such a feeble amount of effort in and try harder.
They need to realise that Kenny will be here alot longer than they will, and in order to retain their place they'll need to impress him and us.

    Rant over! I think!

Put it down to a bad day at the office crazy. Every team has them - we had one against your lot last March. The important thing to do is bounce back strong next game.

Tho for me the weakness still lies in defence. Agger injured again, Carragher didn't look great from what I've seen and Skrtel was nowhere. I'm still surprised you didn't bring in more cover in defence in the summer - that could hurt you if Agger is out for a while.
