He may have also hemmed himself in if there's a general election. So Tories have to campaign for this deal. Labour for new deal and 2nd ref Lib-Dem/Greens - Remain Brexit Party - No Deal
If he pulled it off it would be a very good move for him, if not I imagine it's going to be a lot, lot harder
He did however in theory have a chance at attempting to exploit a loophole in Benn Act whereby they could have voted to pass deal and then rejected the WA. But they've just lost a vote on controlling the procedure on Saturday so the rebels should have closed that off.
Juncker: "If deal is not passed in Parliament there will be no extension" So either way it's out on 31st October.
Yep was just going to post that (with the caveat that that is Junker saying that so doesn't neccesarily reflect rest of EU - France would be keener on that than Merkel)
And of course now Nigel is moaning that we can't not leave in Oct (despite of course being an MEP so either knowing the realities of Junkers statement and misrepresnting it or just having never learnt)
Not even looked at the deal, but surely it's the same as the May one with just NI being any change. Because remain and the EU said it's impossible to renegotiate.
Don’t know for sure , I think the WA is mainly just changed for NI but I understood the Political statement is different, further along the spectrum from very soft Brexit to no deal - tbh I’ve stopped following every twist and turn but I believe it will be harder to sell services into the EU than under May’s political statement. I also understood the Non Tariff barriers will be higher - rules of origin where exported have to prove the % of UK content in what they sell, loss of common professional qualifications, common testing standards - all likely to be different. However the political declaration is not binding in the same way as the WA so it’s more a statement of intent.
Don't worry about Brexit or remain at this rate you will be discussing the same issues in 10 years time at this rate
