It's obvious that a North East jury were never going to convict him.
Anyone else would be entitled to consider themselves extremely fortunate to be acquitted in these circumstances.
I'm not sure which verdict would've been best for him, to be honest.
He's clearly struggling, but I have no idea what the answer is, as it seems impossible to help him.
He's the George Best of his generation in more ways than one.
And like Best, he's probably beyond salvation unfortunately.
It's hard to tell how the jury saw the whole thing without having been present in court.
They may have felt that the charges were excessive or unwarranted, especially with assault by beating seemingly tacked on for no apparent reason.
The case might've been handled better with a plea to lesser charges.
