Why doesn’t it count as a WR?

He had pace setters, which seems fair enough when you’re running at 13mph for two hours.

I don’t see what difference that makes to the fact that he’s broken the 2hr barrier tbh.

    That's nuts, quickest I ever did a half was 1 hour 50something.

    Assisted, basically.

Had a laser guiding him (honest) which showed quickest route and set the pace. As well as actual pace setters.

Not race conditions either, although that itself wouldn't invalidate it as neither was Bannisters sub 4 minute mile.

'World records' are actual races I guess.

Makes a mockery of the actual WR then, as it’s been beaten, just not recorded.

I see Brailsford was behind it. I once sat through his ‘incremental marginal gains’ workshop. It was a thriller.

it's not like he had a tweak up on the engine management system.

you have to set some sort of criteria to keep a level playing field.
As an aside it would be interesting to know how much that attempt cost . I'd hazard it probably cost well over £500k & quite possibly over £1m .

I don’t think he competed at the World Championships and assume he gave up the opportunity to win a medal as he was preparing for yesterday’s attempt.

True although the men’s marathon was run in conditions that weren’t anywhere near as punishing as the women's race. The winner clocked 2 hours 10.

the interviews with the female medallists were funny*/disturbing in their outrage at the conditions they were made to run in. Think nearly 50% of the runners failed to finish .

Yeah as long as he ran it, i.e. using his own two legs and didn't take any performance enhancing substances, then it should stand as a record imo

give over or where does it stop.
Did you notice that the pacemakers were used as a wind break therefore immediately reducing the energy required to run . The whole run was a purely artificial contrivance which while a striking achievement bore no relation to a world record as determined by Athletics bodies.

I think it's amazing someone that old running a marathon.

    What is he 65?
