If we could somehow get Kev in with Stendel the vast majority of the fan base would be right on with that. Don’t see any way that’s possible of course. I don’t see any reason whatsoever to look beyond Stendel at this point, there are no black marks against him. A 52% win rate in the Bundesliga with a club like Hannover is a stunning record.
Apart from his connection to the club, he has good experience at coaching, and from a commercial prospective SKP would be a winner.. so I hope you're right and Donald looks at him seriously
Just read another Phillips snippet, he’s rolling out the talk. ‘I’d play positive, front foot, attacking football’, ‘I’m not scared to go in even if it tarnished my playing time, you can’t live life like that’. He’s saying the right things, he thinks he has it in him.
You’d be a bit worried, but you’d get behind him wouldn’t you? Initially the club and the fans were reunited after Short went, cracks are appearing. No doubt Phillips would, at least initially, fix that. It still just feels like the timing of Stendel becoming free is almost fate to me though.
It would be a huge gamble giving him the job and this Stendel on paper appears to me to be the standout candidate. But something is niggling me that because he knows what we expect, the players know he is a bit of a legend here and he has done his time coaching that he might just pull it off
There's every chance he does have it in him. He made it from Baldock Town to the England team so he's shown he's got the determination to succeed. I just think appointing him would be very risky at this point in time as he has no managerial experience and we virtually need guaranteed promotion. Managers say that managing is vastly different to coaching and that nothing can prepare you for that step up. It seems ridiculous to me to even be considering an inexperienced manager when options like Stendel (and others) are available.
Phillips isn't quite the cuddly little character he's sometimes seen as. He's very determined and knows he'd get a longer honeymoon period than the likes of Ainsworth. Donald would be well aware of that.
That wasn't the Bundesliga, they were second division for the majority of his time there. Still, it's not a bad record for his first proper managerial job - although interesting to note they did get shot with the team sitting outside automatic promotion places, and his successor took them to the end of the season without losing another game and got them top 2. Still think he'd be may favourite after what he's done at Barnsley. Someone mentioned that SKP has said he'd be open to coming as Pearson's no.2 - I'd be chuffed with that also.
Oh aye. As someone’s mentioned above he dropped right down and fought back to the top, and he kept scoring well into his 30’s as he was so professional. **** it make him player gaffer, bet he can still finish and he be no slower than McGeady, who’s head and shoulders our best player, ha.
Phillips would be an exciting appointment for sure. He's a very confident bloke and has the inbuilt unshakable need to win that you want in a manager. Unfortunate that it's such a crucial time for the club and appointing any untried manager would be a big risk that we don't need to take.
Massive risk. But sometimes, sometimes a massive gamble pays out. I want Stendel, but I’d gamble on Kev ahead of any of the other front runners.
I'm quickly coming round to Phillips getting the job. He has to start somewhere and why not with us? Would certainly get the place buzzing and maybe that would help the team. You can see the likes of Dobson, 09, Robson etc wanting to impress him
He's been promoted from this league, he's also managed Grigg. Stendel would be my preference to push us to promotion ....
It's 16/1, I just stuck £25 on ha. Never usually gamble but those odds just seem too good to be true. Especially when he was apparently the first to be interviewed, is out of work, has recent history of getting a team promoted from this league, and is the fans' favourite. Everything just screams it's going to be him, imo.
