I remember walking down the street with my mum in the late 80s and a few blokes pulled up in a car and asked her directions, when they heard her Belfast accent they started shouting abuse and one of them spat at me from the back window before driving off.

We've never been used to seeing armed police or soldiers on our streets in England, unlike places such as Northern Ireland, but when you see these types of attacks, it's quite refreshing if not at first daunting when you see armed police or soldiers abroad. It's strange feeling to feel safe in front of someone with a gun (albeit a little edgy), but with the rise in lone wolf attacks it's not surprising either.
