    Small item tucked away in a corner of the Saturday Guardian: 1300 Nepalese workers have died so far building the new stadiums. It's been no secret, and presumably there have been many more deaths of other nationalities. As far as I know FIFA have not lifted a finger to improve conditions, so imo they have blood on their hands as well as money in their pockets.

    It's absolutely disgusting.
    They treat foreign workers like slaves out there.

    Conditions were just as bad here when the great engineering projects were underway; the bridges and railways and mills.
    But that was 200 years ago, and nobody had ever done what was being done in Britain at the time.
    In this age of mass communication, the United Nations and Human Rights, what has been going on in Qatar and what goes on in the rest of the Middle East is appalling.

    If one construction worker dies in the UK on a major project it makes the news. Questions are asked. Stuff is investigated. And rightly so.
    Out there they treat foreign workers worse than animals.

    There have been multiple reports over the years since Blatter's triumphant announcement, yet the hugely wealthy FIFA has chosen to turn a blind eye. Not just FIFA, the world of football. What has happened to the world where there is more coverage of a meaningless spat between two online nonentities than this?

    I thought Blatter was supposed to side with all the poor little countries against the Imperialist Europeans.

    The Qatar World Cup Finals will be the biggest sporting embarrassment since the 1936 Berlin Olympics.

    I think so.

    It's in December 2022/January 2023 I think, and all the games will be indoors.
    No women will be allowed to watch. Also anybody found to be Jewish or Homosexual will be deported or shot or maybe just beaten up a bit.

    Obviously, considering I have very little interest in international football...

    Does Qatar have a thriving non league ? (I’d be careful asking for a beer out there though)

    @ForestHillBilly

    the Killie grounds man was one of the 560 Tartan Army in Russia last night.

    This has provoked much merriment on social media - not for the Jock’s 4-0 beating ..the whole world knows that they are sh1te ...but for the bizarre fact that Killie employ a groundsman when they have an artificial pitch.

    When I was a boy there was a sheep called Angus which used to cut the grass and fertilise it at the same time. No need for the legendary Angus nahadays.
