I see Andre Villas-Boas would like the big clubs to be allowed to play in the lower leagues. I think it should be allowed (indeed it already is). Chelsea etc could form new clubs (e.g. Chelsea Lions AFC ) which would have to start in the lowest non-league (just like AFC Wimbledon and FC United did). Andre can then play his youth/reserves under the same rules as eveyone else. This would mean under the current loan restrictions as all other clubs. This will mean that they lose some players for a season to their B teams (no swapping every week like he would like!). So Mr Villas-Boas go ahead you greedy man.
But there are clubs of a good size and following that already have these places in the league why should they be displaced for a big clubs second side? They won't bring more revenue to the other clubs in the league and won't give increased competition raising the level. England has plenty of teams capable of competing at the level required.
And few people will go watch their reserve team play meaning tiny attendances. You thought this through
I don't see why it's needed in England but I think it's something that might work in Scotland. The problem is even the Celtic and Rangers 'B' teams would probably sweep aside most of the lower division teams.
saintsftw, he means like in spain where real madrid castilla and barcelona b play in the 2nd tier, most other la liga teams have youth/reserve teams in lower tiers and it works fine
I was being sarcastic to start with! There is no way the big clubs would play by the rules regarding loans/transfers etc (i.e. forming new clubs in the Ismithian etc). I was intending for the article to show what the big clubs are looking at to help themselves even more(rather than thinking of everyone)
I knew I should should have put some emoticons in there. Doesn't the idea show the selfishness of the biggest clubs? Makes me glad I've had 30+ years of (mainly) misery supporting the tigers!
It would give young players at bigger clubs a chance to develop in a lower league while not having to go to a club whose style isn't similar to the club they're on loan from and also it would mean they would be developing in a pressure free enviroment. The funny thing is, when big clubs don't produce players that win England the world cup, fans of small clubs cry and moan about how they're ruining the national team with foreign imports yet when they try and think of a solution to let the English youngsters have game time they get slated for being selfish. There's no winning for most clubs, it seems.
