You see King I find quite enough disappointment when Spurs lose without compounding it by thinking what might have been. The reason football is such a huge world game is that it includes skills and strategy and the big factor of how rich you are as a club and the other ingredient LUCK, good and bad. We had some good luck on our way to the CL final and we've had some bad luck at the start of this season. Son's disallowed goal for having a finger nail offside and Hugo's injury amongst it. You have the great highs and the big lows and hopefully if they don't change too much you always will. What you can't do is get the decisions right all the time and I don't count hindsight observations. Overall I think Levy has got more right than he's got wrong but if he does make a mistake (like AVB) the repercussions are huge. I predict it won't be long before we are enjoying some more exciting times with Spurs and we've had a few lately.
And that's the issue with the Levy Out mob: their go-to comparisons are always Chelsea and The Sheikh Mansour Team, which is like putting a Robin Reliant against a Ferrari Enzo in a game of Top Trumps - which probably goes a long way to explaining the sudden influx of people using the infographic of our game against Saltypool in early 2016 that I posted a page or two back, once again failing to understand how money works As I said after the Bayern match, we're in a really weird spot: we have more money than someone like Everton, Watford or Bournemouth but considerably less than Man Utd, Chelsea, Saltypool or the Sheikh Mansour Team - which means not only can't we shrug and triple the wages of a Southampton or Palace player like they can do without thinking about it, but also means we have issues with players not wanting to take a pay cut of £20k a week to leave as that's at least a third of what they make for us, which is why what remains of Vincent Wanyama is still at the club and not lining up for Brugge
So what if Levy spent in the Summer...he would have been hung if he didn't...had no choice. You got to spend like that for a few windows in a row to build a squad...he can't live off the last window, for me.
The TAX people ALWAYS take a chunk, unless you are Amazon or Uber who seem to decide themselves how much they will pay.
Yeh but some clubs get more luck than others. If Klopp fell into a crocodile pit he'd come out with a sponsorship deal with Lacoste.
Let’s hope you’re right, I just don’t want to look back at this recent period as what could have been when the promised land was so close.
I don't know about a "promised land!" But someone, somewhere has decided this will be a season Spurs fans won't forget!
Are the players happy as continual "runners-up?" Or are they ticked as we are that they haven't won anything? Well,I think Poch has messed up in the last few seasons with his player choices.....and the players themselves have played many games when they didn't turn up.Starting with letting Leicester win the championship and dying in some games since!
I am sorry but we did not let Leicester win the league they won it fair and square they kept winning and we chased hard until Clattenburg changed the rules and once we couldn't catch them the effort of trying to keep up caught up with us. We were never top and due to the way the fixtures played out we never closed the points to a point where we could catch them. This team has been excellent in so many ways but we have buckled at big moments though until this year that was more in the cups than in the league. Poch has to take his share of the blame as he has made many questionable decisions at big moments too, but I still agree that changing him now would be ludicrous. Time to be brave now, get the deadwood out and trust some of the youth, but I also think that a new voice amongst the coaching staff must be considered as the players seem to need something different to happen. Maybe time for Poch to have one of his meetings with Fergie to get some advice.
We had two clear opportunities to go top that season. We needed to beat one of Arsenal at home or West Ham away. We drew both. And so by the time Mr Clusterfuckberg turned our game against Chelsea into his personal reality TV show, we were already trailing Leicester by some distance. We screwed up, no getting away from it.
Too early to say that. Liverpool and City are way ahead of us. I still think we can compete with all the others. Chelsea seem to have a great bunch of young players, but a long season may have a negative impact on them, Arsenal have exciting forwards but no obvious defensive strategy, Leicester look good but we gave them a tough game that we should have taken something from and Utd are in transition/decline. Wolves, West Ham and the others don't terrify me so Cups/CL places should be doable if the squad can summon up some passion. If only to get themselves the transfers they want. I don't know what Madrid will be thinking of Eriksen at the moment for example.
