To be fair, what he achieved last season is immaterial if his current form isn't good enough. Your only as good as your last game is the quote In my head but can't remember who said it
How often has Burge played behind a settled defence while here, not many would be my guess, I was all for leaving the defence unchanged after the Sheffield game and I would still play them tbh. In fact if we have to put up with Ross any longer he should be told in no uncertain terms to pick his best team, and injuries apart, stick with it allowing him one change per game. The other reasons for Craig Gordon failure would be interesting to hear.
He cost £9 million pound He didn't come for crosses He was Scottish and they never have good keepers That's my Gordon bingo
I'd like to see what Burge is like, I've heard glowing reports from the little time he's had and he might give us a bit of a lift if he plays well and fits well into the side character wise. We might even get one of those elusive clean sheets.
I remember one or two exceptional saves but he was average at best. Crossed paths with him once or twice and he was so frail he looked seriously ill. I also remember the game against Stoke City where he cost us three points with the most cowardly exhibition I have ever witnessed from a Sunderland player, he was pound for pound, no pun intended, our worst ever buy he was that bad, and I think it was an 11m fee, a record fee at that time for a goalkeeper who was rated as the worlds best by observers North of the Border. Off topic see Defoe scored a hat trick for Rangers to-day.
I'm sure lads who saw him play like you would have a better opinion, me as an exile just saw him never being given a chance
Burge kept a clean sheet and us in the game at Sheffield, we will never know how it might have gone if we had got to half time against Lincoln without conceding, goals change games, McLaughlin has gone from hero to zero of late. Burge deserved to keep the shirt imo.
Craig Gordon was a decent Keeper that while at SAFC but was unlucky with injuries , he went on to have a very successful career and getting his Scotland place back showed his capabilities - our loss as he was just getting fit when he left .
But he's costing us now? I agree he was superb last season but he's not been this season. More than the last 2 games he's made dodgy decisions which have almost resulted in goals against - he looks hesitant coming off his line unlike last year. I'm with you on the "he saved us time and again" but if he's out of form it may do him good to be on the sidelines for a bit. Although it's a brave decision so I doubt Ross will make it! As for comparing with Camp and Steele - he's a million times the player either of them are (both put together probably!) surely putting him on the bench should make him want to work harder to make sure he's not dropped? If he goes the other way and decides "why am I here?" he's not for this club
SAFC supporters have short memories , last year Jon was exceptional and saved us time and time again this year he has made some mistakes costing us goals , not that many . Compare this with our friends Mr Camp and Mr Steele who conceded goal after goal week in week out before condemning Jon McLaughlin and you decide who you prefer , our second keeper is back up and will ultimately make the step up but I think we should at least give Jon a little more time before making the change . It’s not that Jon is a bad keeper I just think he is not in the right frame of mind for him to perform And Marcus is right a time on the bench may sort his head out
He looks like he's lost confidence, a bit like the rest of the team which is a shame. The first goal on Saturday was definitely down to him, he was way to casual and should have snapped the ball up easily.
Converting crosses into goals, thats what they did, we just cold not cope with it , especially our over rated goal keeper.
