Enjoyed seeing the movie Judy last night about the tragic life of Judy Garland.. On the train to London now for the game... Let's hope for a good day... Coyh!
Morning all. Sunshine and showers forecast for today. So far one half is right but no sign of that bright shiny thing up above. Looks as though I might get to collect some vegetables for my dinner, but little more on the gardening front. We have noticed that the weather is getting cooler by the amount of milk we use. More tea and coffee now rather than cold drinks from the fridge. Still it is quite mild during the daytime, but a light fleece is welcome once the sun goes down. Have a bright and cheerful day.
please log in to view this image Ginger Baker: Legendary Cream drummer dies aged 80. Along with bassist Jack Bruce and guitarist Eric Clapton they were one of the most influential bands of their era.
RIP Ginger Baker Another legend gone ! Unfortunately seeing a live concert of The Cream slipped under the radar for me (I was only 12 when they played their final concert at the Albert Hall in 68) yet songs like 'Sunshine of your love' were played everywhere in those days. Baker belonged amongst the elite of British drummers - perhaps excelled only by Keith Moon and John Bonham - which haven't been bettered since. After the days of Cream I saw Jack Bruce playing with Rory Gallagher on stage, but Clapton became too much of a smoothy for my liking.
I also saw Rory Gallagher at the Hemel pavilion, shame they took in down years ago without replacing the venue.
I also saw Ginger Baker several times when he was the drummer with Terry Lightfoot's Jazzmen back in the late 1950's. Every Thursday night at the Watford jazz club top line performers could be seen, and it always amazed me just how many pints the musicians could down in the course of an evening.
Saw him once with Hawkwind in the early 80's. How he even got to 80 himself is an enigma wrapped up in a mystery.
Morning all. Quite a bit cooler this morning, but dry, so should be able to get on. One of the things that confused me when I first came out here was the difference in the growing season. We have had Michaelmas Daisies out in the garden here for the best part of a month, whereas the ones we had had in England would open just in time for the annual Michaelmas Fair held in Banbury for three days in the middle of October. During what used to be known as the Mop Fair, local tradesman, craftsmen, labourers, farmers and servants came into town to look for new employment. Everyone who attended dressed up and took along the tools of their trade to help the hirers see who was available for relevant jobs. The housemaids held mops which led to the name Mop Fair. Today it is very different. The kind of stalls and entertainment on offer have changed a great deal; from palm readers, peep shows and freak shows, to more complicated mechanical creations that give attendees a different kind of thrill. Taking over the whole town centre the council have tried to move it to the outskirts of town several times, but it is protected by royal charter, so the council today have given up and advertise it as a great local attraction. There are traditional events stretching back hundreds of years in many places; the Goose Fair in Nottingham which probably goes back to Saxon times comes to mind. Amid the flashing lights of the fairground today, some people still regard such events as their link with the past. Enjoy your day whatever you have to do.
Morning all.. Yes he lived a 'full' life. I saw him a few times.. And as a rock drummer he was very good.. But perhaps a tad to wild for me. I had booked to see Jack Bruce a couple of years back but he became terminally ill.. We are really coming to the end of the musical era I grew up in, which is sad.. Most of the music i listen to it seems is from that era and half the musicians are no longer with us... Have a good day one and all. And enjoy every day!
Good morning all from a cool and damp Weston-super-Mare. Really didn't want to wake up this morning! Have a good day
Morning all. Cloudy with rain forecast for later. I have been trying to find some prepared hyacinths that will flower in time for Christmas, but they are very difficult to obtain in France. I can buy them over the internet from Holland, but by the time you add postage they become very expensive. You can buy them in pots already growing here cheaper than I can buy the bulbs. Think I might have to buy some of those and repot them up into something of a group. Enjoy your day whatever the weather.
I have just bought some lily of the valley corms to take back to france in two weeks... could not seem to get them in any garden centres....
