I went on Ryanair once on a route that no longer is in operation and certainly didn't like it. That is one area the States of Jersey have got their heads screwed on - they don't run flights to/from this fair island. Easyjet do, but only to Liverpool and not L*t*n - that route is taken by Flybe which was Jersey European when I first moved here 15 years ago.

We were planning a trip to your fair Isle in the next two weeks, but got quoted £240 return on the ferry from St Malo <yikes>

NOt sure, but it is expensive from France, to say the least we are now revising our fluid plans. Might just get a train to the South of France instead;)

Condor have you over a barrel as they have a monopoly. After Emeraude collapsed in 2006, there were attempts a few years ago, to introduce a new operator (hd ferries) but they had too many problems with their vessels and so lost their landing licence. Some of the problems that beset hd are now affecting Condor, but instead of cancelling sailings, they're just sailing with 1 engine not working. See the story about this and the comments below.

A very touchy subject then! I would love to visit but the cost is putting me off, we shall wait and see what happens when I get to Paris next week. We are lucky that we have the freedom to do what we want, Jersey is a place I have always wanted to go back to, i was lucky that about 20 years ago I had a jolly through work a day visit to Jersey, we had a great day;)

You have found out the same thing as I did, it is a ridiculous price to go to Jersey from France. What will happen though if Condor no longer go there? I would have thought that the island needs a proper service at a price that is reasonable. As things stand they are losing tourist trade.

I did look at flying but had to go via the UK <yikes> but that was from CDG, I shall have to look at a municipal airport and see what I can get!

When I looked at the fares it was cheaper to go to the UK by ferry, then fly out. Total madness and really inconvenient, so we did not bother. Internal flights here are also expensive, Limoges to Lyon which is just a short hop is over €200 with Air France, and that is the budget price. Trains are good value however for getting around if you don't mind being tied to a timetable.

According to the man from the Meteo it is raining here at the moment.

In fact there is a clear blue sky and bright sunshine. <yikes>

Ooh that takes me back a few years! In my youth, I played football for a club whose ground nestled in the foothills of Mt Archer in Queensland. Twice a week, our coach made us do a double run up the mountain - only about 1km, but by heck it was steep, and no road either - just a bush track. Said coach - John Harbin - came over to the UK a good few years ago & was fitness coach at QPR before moving to Coventry as assistant manager, then manager for a while before moving back to Queensland. Wonder if there are any hills near Loftus Road

Afternoon all - pleasant day in bandit country. Just been in the loft take a look at one of the show pumps and it is worse than I thought - I could hardly move in there, so that's it, it's heading for the car boot in a couple of weeks....

Not a bad performance by England against a handy Georgian team..was interesting on the commentary that they said they could be challenging Scotland for a place in the 6 nations in a few years time. That got me thinking that is teams like Argentina and Georgia improve enough could they apply to join the 6 nations and would it mean increasing the size or having 2 divisions with promotion/relegation? - might be an interesting move.
