Is that the first 3YO Bumper of the term at Huntingdon tomorrow (5.15)??? I don’t recall seeing one thus far in season 2019/20.

Meanwhile, can I point out to the dear old regular readers that Barney Frederick running in that heat is not named after me. No, no, no, no, no. My middle moniker is not Frederick. Just thought I’d point that out.

How odd, I’ve just been discussing this race and that horse with Stick.

Should be a fascinating race and, you would imagine, offer several clues to races later this season and in the terms to come. For me the ‘big race’ of tomorrow.

The most fascinating thing re today’s racing news (and I will whisper this) – Tis Fantastic being given an opening mark (over hurdles) of 87. His handicap bow should be something to look forward to.

Massive ask giving a penalty away against horses who are probably more classy, 2014 was last time a horse won this under a penalty.

I've gone to take on Noble Saffron in the 12:45 at Bangor. He did so well last time out, but I don't think he's the finish article in terms of build and I fear that he might not be the most consistent. I've backed two at prices against him in Ballybreen @12s and Emissaire @ 9s. The former looked a big baby of a horse over hurdles and has point winning form, now handicapping over fences off a lowly mark. Emissaire won a bumper on debut so has some ability, and I think chasing will be the making of him off a double figure mark.

Hopefully either or both will be strong in the market tomorrow.

In the bumper steelcraft catches the eye for a trainer who has winners here and the Stuart Edmonds debutant maskada. Chuck into the mix the Ellsworth runner and I don’t know what to back.

At Nottingham the ground is Heavy but I felt Ugo Gregory might run well at a decent price. He's won at the track over the distance on soft and if forgiving a below par effort last time I think he would be shorter here. Tim Easterby has a few in the field but Afandem seems clearly to be a 5F horse. Kenny The Captain was a decisive winner last time but he's 8YO now and had been on a long run of losses, while Fantasy Keeper is skinny at 7/2.

Dropped 3 lbs for his poor run last time, I hope Ugo Gregory can click back at Nottingham on the soft/heavy going at a decent 10/1 with four places available from Trap 9.

3.25 Nottingham Ugo Gregory 10/1 EW 1,2,3,4 Places BOG

Ugo Gregory seemed to be left with plenty to do and the jockey wasn't great in steering him for a run but he did get going eventually and stayed on for 4th and the place money. As ever, when you take a favourite on it wins. I couldn't understand Afandem at 5/1 this morning because he has no real form at 6F. Kenny The Captain seemed to be tipped in plenty places this morning but I didn't fancy him. He was 16th of the 17 runners.

Happy enough with a 10/1 place in a tricky race.

LOVES FIRST gets my tentative vote at a nice price but in my view this is not really a bumper.
