i dont get mad with pundits anymore... doesnt change our performances on the pitch... it just gives neutrals the wrong impression.. and to be fair.. who cares what other supporters think

Actually remembering Le Saux's brief job as a pundit he was even worse. Must be a CI thing! <laugh>

Great! Top of the table 22pts from 8 games. Won our cup game today as well. Yeah our home league games we've had 1475, 1441 and 1604 (only played 3 at home so far and 5 on the road). That is pretty good considering the league average attendance is 40. In fact looking at the stats for the other teams we've played they have had record home attendances when playing us because of our away support! :)

Not been yet due to various issues but will be getting a season ticket and going to all the games as soon as I am able.

<laugh> i didn't realise he'd done punditry! It must be something in the water :)

Wow! That's amazing! Hopefully you'll work your way up to the Prem and give some prestige to the islands! :) That's crazy support, about the same as some Conference teams! <laugh> that's pitiful support, although i spose mostly it's just towns in the league!

Best of luck with the rest of the season then! It seems like it's bright times for Channel Island sports what with Jersey's rugby team in the equivalent of League 1 (i think) <ok>

4 huge mistakes I can see in that report:

    - Sammy and Shola HAVE played together before.
    - STEVEN Taylor cleared the ball off the line not Ryan.
    - CABAYE had the chance at the end not Marveaux.
    - Obertan isn't on loan from Man U

And I'm sure if a Villa fan were to read it they'd find another 2/3 mistakes.

To think people are paid to write this tripe. <doh>

Very brief career. Either he or the tv guys realised early on he wasn't any good ;)

Would be nice to get to the prem but not holding my breath. Getting as far as the conference or league two would be as far as my ambitions could stretch to be honest, but that would be great too. Yeah your Rugby team is doing very well. We do very well at sport in the CI considering our small population!

Any thoughts in Jersey about following us and entering a football team in the English leagues?

And I agree, most of the main Soccer Saturday pundits are ****. Le Tissier doesn't really seem to give any useful insight, Thompson is biased, and Merson can't even pronounce players names he's so thick!

<laugh> i've gotta say, he doesn't seem particularly interesting, well not enough to be a decent pundit

Yeah the Prem might be a bit of an ask, but i don't see why you shouldn't reach League Two, possibly even League One! I mean the attendances are good enough and if there's a bit more investment (i know at the moment the club pays for the away teams to play them!) it wouldn't be unthinkable to get to the Football League <ok>

I think the rugby teams sitting midtable at the moment, which isn't too bad. We've had 2 wins and 2 losses so it's not like we're struggling. Considering Jersey's entire population would barely fill the Nou Camp and Guernseys is a bit less then we're doing amazingly sportswise. I know we produce quite a few top badminton players as well!

I don't know if there are any plans at the moment but i don't see why we couldn't! I mean, we have Springfield which is a stadium (just!) and i'm sure we'd be able to just about compete if we can compete in the Muratti and Guernsey are top of their league!

Yeah your Rugby team is doing well. Hope it continues! Can't believe I said that. I'll deny it if my Guernsey mates ever ask by the way! <laugh>

Technically I think both our teams could reach league two possibly but I think we would be struggling financially by then. Not sure how much higher our attendances could go and without a fairly big increase we would always be amongst the poorest of the teams competing at that level. But I don't really care about getting to far up the pyramid it is just good to be involved. Winning is a bonus.

<laugh> nothing wrong with a bit of mutual support, unless it's the muratti of course!

Yeah that's the main problem, there's only so many people that'll watch and we'd be having to pay for teams to play us. I know what you mean though, it's just nice to be put on the map and have people recognise that the Channel Islands aren't just here to be tax havens <laugh>

Gloves are off on muratti day fella! <laugh>

Yeah good point. We could do with a bit of positive rep and from a different perspective. At least people know you grow good potatoes and you get a mention every time somebody talks about football shirts. Shame nobody seems to remember that Aussie rules have a decent name for their shirts ;)

<laugh> the amount of carrots thrown about is amazing, it's like the day is set aside for racial abuse!

Jersey could definitely do with some positive rep what with the recent murders and the 'Historic Abuse Enquiries'!
How could you forget about the cows and milk! They're all we really have that's better than anywhere else! :)
I completely didn't know that there was such a thing as a 'guernsey'! Bit random that they use them in Aussie rules though, surely they'd use the clearly superior jerseys <whistle>

I just looked on Wikipedia to try to find something that Guernsey are famous for exporting and found out that you were Parliamentarian...like Sunderland...oh dear!

The muratti abuse is all done in good fun though. Well I don't mean any of the offensive things I say at least <laugh>

Yeah Guernsey jumpers. I used to get one every year for Christmas. Bloody horrible itchy things, hated them with a vengeance! Still better than those stinky old Jersey's though! ;)

We used to be as famous for our tomatoes as you are for potatoes but the Dutch and Spanish did for that, we couldn't compete. I suppose Specsavers and Healthspan are our most famous export now, along with the flower industry, Freesias being the main one.

Yep like the mackems we were with the Roundheads, but the castle in the harbour (Castle Cornet) stayed loyal to the crown. Bit of trivia, the castle was the last royalist stronghold to surrender during the civil war! Totally destroyed the town with cannon fire as well. Cannonballs are still getting dug up to this day.

<laugh> i doubt the muratti will ever get properly violent and abusive to be honest, we're all too nice in the CIs ;)

To be fair they probably are better than jerseys! Either that or both are as bad as each other <laugh>

Very much didn't know you exported Specsavers, or flowers for that matter. We don't export our flowers, we just put them on wire sculptures and drive them up and down a road for 2 days...usually in the rain <ok>

I love the idea of Castle Cornet firing on it's own town :D Next time i'm in Guernsey i'll have to give it a look. I never realised it actually had a good back story, i thought it was just something to look at on the way to the aquarium ;)

I remember the muratti getting a bit violent a couple of times in the 80's but not anymore. You are right we are too nice! :)

Nah that was just me being biased, both types of jumper are horrible. Itchy woollen and too thick.

Yeah Specsavers is owned by a local family (Perkins) and was established here. Most of the glasses are manufactured in Sweden now though I think although there is a factory here. We do the Battle of Flowers too, although we've never done it on quite the same scale as you. Wish it was still a real battle though. Ripping the floats to pieces and throwing them at each other was the best bit of it!

Yeah the Castle is worth a visit, got some really good museums inside it, covering, maritime history, shipwrecks, military history and general history. The asterix roman galley recovered from the harbour is housed there (well what is left of it anyway).

Forgot to comment on the milk last post. Good call, we have the best milk in the world. I always notice how ****e the milk is when I am anywhere else and look forward to a glass of it when I get home <ok>

Oh so Specsavers to you is essentially what Play.com is for us? I'm sure it's based here but with other warehouses...

The Battle Of Flowers is so naff now! (well it has been my whole - short - life) It would be a hell of a lot more fun to destroy the floats rather than just leave them to rot. It'd probably be against health and safety to have a proper battle though, just incase someone choked on a flower <doh>

Sounds a bit like Mont Orgueil over here, although that's a lot more medieval so suppose it's more Elizabeth Castle. I'll definitely pop in next time i'm over there <ok>

I never drink any other milk! If i'm away i just stick to soft drinks rather than tea or coffee. Makes me feel a bit of a snob to be honest but it just doesn't compare!

Yeah I suppose it is. Specsavers head office is here and it is the largest private employer, but as it is one of the worlds biggest optical brands/franchises it makes sense that alot of the manufacturing has to be done elsewhere, we just don't have the manpower to produce for the world. Healthspan is very like play.com though it is just an online mail order supplier for medicines and vitamins etc. Just a warehouse mailing service really.

Yeah it is all down to health and safety. Battle of Flowers used to be just that. A free for all where all the floats were ripped to shreads and everybody throwing the flowers and stuff at each other. Minor scrapes and knocks suffered no doubt but all part of the fun. ****ing liberal do gooders have to ruin everything!

To be fair you can get our milk abroad if you look for it, I mean the Guernsey/Jersey breeds are considering as dairy specialists and there is demand worldwide, it is just that it is hard to find. Unfortunately the breeds don't bulk up as well so they are not so good for the meat, which is why they lose out to other breeds like the Fresian for most farmers. Still ... so long as we still get the good stuff here I can live with it!
