Good Morning. It's Monday 30th September, and here are the Leeds Utd headlines

    Bowyer targeted set pieces

During Lee Bowyer's post match presser, he revealed that his coaching staff have been working on set pieces, as it is a particular Leeds weakness!

"That's something we worked on," he said.

"It's something [Charlton staff members] Johnnie Jackson, [Andy] Marshall and Brett Shaw work hard on.

"They said before the game if we get the delivery right we'll score from set-pieces today.

"Leeds aren't they biggest, neither are we. We play football, Leeds play football [but] that's definitely a weakness of theirs for sure."

Would you agree with what Bowyer said?

Is it purely a lack of height?

Why are Leeds not able to put teams under the same pressure when they have three or four times as many set pieces?

    Are our deliveries poor?

Do we need wholesale changes for the game tomorrow night against top of the table West Brom?

    Post match press conference

Cooper - The luck will change

Liam Cooper was then asked about their inability to defend set pieces!

"It's not from a lack of training it," Cooper said.

"We train it every day. Every single day we'll train set plays and if you don't win the first contact you have to win the second. It's our Achilles heel at the minute.

"We need to knock that out of ourselves. It's not good enough and we'll be looking to put it right. It's the only way at the minute that teams are hurting us.

"It's hard as a defender to see that. We've got to be better."

"We aren't getting any of the rub of the green at the minute," Cooper continued.

"We've not getting a bounce off the shin or the knee and it go in. Over the course of the season it'll even itself out but when Charlton go 1-0 up it gives them something to hold onto.

"They can shut up shop. They can be ugly and slow the game down and they did that.

"But we've still had enough chances to win the game and that's what is bitterly disappointing and conceding from a set play.

"This won't define our season. The manager has told us to stay positive. The luck will change eventually and we've got to go on a run.

According to Cooper, its just down to bad luck. Leeds are not getting the rub of the green!

    Agree?

Have Leeds lost their Northern grit?

There was a time, not too long ago that teams dreaded a trip to Elland Road Not only would an opposition team know they'd be in a battle come 5.30pm on a Saturday afternoon, but a fortified crowd would let the away side know that they had outstayed their visit.

    When did this change?

When was the last time you saw this?

Would you like to see this return?

    Morning all...

We’ll probably go out and beat West Brom now and wonder what all the fuss and worry was about

Good Morning to Matt Doc and co from a sunny Bardsey
Yes after the awful deluge which left me with 2 100 litre water butts full we have some sun at last
I think that we need to bring in Ryan Edmundson because he will give a more physical presence at set pieces and lets face it we have been unable to score at corner kicks so we need something different and if that doesn't work how about playing 3 at the back with Struyt to give us extra height in defence
Lets face it we are becoming predictable to the opposition

Without him we have no one to dictate the play in the final third... and he chips in with goals.

But we’ve had some very similar afternoons to Saturday this season with him in the team.

Personally, this year we’ve been playing without an out and out 10. I like klich and forshaw, but if we play we sacrifice some creativity.

I thought costa coming would mean Pablo going to 10 with two wingers, but so far we’ve gone with a more defensive set up.

Similar thoughts mate, I assumed Pablo or Costa would be in at 10 with the other out on the wing, Alioski and Harrison battling it out for the other wide attacking role. I felt when Forshaw got injured it was the ideal opportunity to go that route and I was surprised when Shackleton was picked.

Last season we persisted with a number 10 when Tyler Roberts wasn't up to the task, this season we seem ideally set for it but Bielsa just doesn't want to go that route, most strange

Tyler Roberts is another player that has had lots of injuries and arrived injured and didn't play for us for ages. He actually cost a lot of money with add-ons. These are just facts.

He was bought as a striker with potential and when we finally got to see him due to injuries to Bamford and Roofe he chipped in with a couple of goals.

He then went missing again and got some U23 time in because one or both strikers was back. Bielsa then needed a replacement for Saiz and tried Roberts as a 10 and at times was pretty good, but missed chances he should have taken.

Now my question is this: last season and this we have seen plenty of players who we thought were ok or average being improved by Bielsa. Can we say the same about Tyler Roberts or has he not had the chance to shine yet due to injuries. Remember Bielsa wants every player to be able to play a couple of positions, so has Roberts done that or in fact has he gone backwards?

He's improving all the time Doc.

Unfortunately it has been stop/start as you say. Performances for Wales as well as us though show he's definitely a talent.

If he can add goals to his game and the evidence so far is that finishing is an aspect of his game which needs work then he will be a very good player.

Would imagine we need to sort his contract out, otherwise he could leave just as it's all starting to come together.

Not long ago Leicester were playing us in the Championship and ever since promotion and with a great owner they have got better and better. If we ever get promoted I hope Victor Orta can do what the Leicester scouts did.

I like Roberts... going to be a very good footballer in my view if injuries don’t curtail him... and 10 may be his best position.

Stop start due to injury, and has looked at his best in more open games when given room to play ... eg West Brom at home. 10 isn’t an easy position when sides park the bus.
