I said 7-10 and I wouldn't put it past us to get a result there but probably will be 7. Magic even got last night wrong, he said it was the only match we were likely to get anything from!...
Liverpool (H) L Brighton (A) W Man United (H) D Sheffield United (A) W Bournemouth (H) L Spuds (A) L 7 points. Anyone right?
7 points from the first 7 games. Not bad. Not great. I’d say that’s ok. 3 each off teams that will be involved in the mix up down the bottom, which is important.
Normally Id say a point per game is pretty bad; 38 points is relegation material. But considering the fact we have played Liverpool, United and Spurs 7 from 7 is actually decent.
I suggested I would be reasonably cheerful with 6 points, so 7 is contentment. Annoying that we couldn't get something from Bournemouth, but we got a point from United and could have got something from Spurs. Throw in the Portsmouth trouncing and it's a decent start holding promise for the future. Some tough games coming up though.
Apart from the first game against Burnley, we have been in contention in all the other games and with a bit of luck could have picked up a couple more points. Liverpool, a good comeback and ings could have rescued a point in the end. Man United we were right back in the game and with 11 men could have snatched a winner. Bournemouth, was all saints second half, deserved a draw, silly late goal conceded. Spurs, we had the better chances for an equaliser. Who cares, we smashed pompey 4-0
Since West Ham went down with the record 42 points, it really is a shocking story. 2003/04 - 33 Leicester (& Leeds 19th & Wolves 20th) 2004/05 - 33 Palace (& Norwich 19th) 2005/06 - 34 Birmingham 2006/07 - 38 Sheff Utd 2007/08 - 36 Reading 2008/09 - 34 Newcastle 2009/10 - 30 Burnley (& Hull 19th) 2010/11 - 39 Birmingham (& Blackpool 19th) 2011/12 - 36 Bolton 2012/13 - 36 Wigan 2013/14 - 33 Norwich 2014/15 - 35 Hull 2015/16 - 37 Newcastle 2016/17 - 34 Hull 2017/18 - 33 Swansea (& Stoke 19th) 2018/19 - 34 Cardiff That's an average of 34.69 for finishing 18th - ie an average of 35 has kept you up. How bad was 2009/10?!!
