I'm still a member on JA606 but haven't used it for about 5 years. Some of us old BBC 606 users joined both sites. I left because the admin on there were far too involved on the site, which I don't think works and also because they thought it was a good idea, one time, to reveal people's locations. There were some good posters on there. I used both sites for a while. Maybe mito has always used both sites.
I'm a member on there too but also haven't used it for years. Don't know what my username was, never mind the password
I've had a JA account since it started. I think my username was the same as my first one on here, but I haven't a clue what my password is. Like you I'm not bothered - on the rare occasions I've lurked on there I've felt no urge to contribute. The format is outdated and the majority of threads (at least those I've seen) are even more pointless than ours.
I've joined JA several times but found I get banned the first time I post any joke that is self-depprecating to the club. It's more tediously yes-mannish than RAWK. I glance at this forum about once or twice a week, (gradually getting less and less,) usually don't bother posting any more. The forum is too set in it's ways. New posters are chased off, new threads are derailed, everything just ends up following the same formula. Mito going and seeing people kicking his corpse kind of bothers me too. I know it's meant in humour, and I'm all for banter, but the way this place is hemorrhaging users, especially people as prolific as mito;when you see you've crossed the line and offended someone (even if seemed a thin-skinned response to you) it seems more appropriate to take a break and apologise rather than keep kicking. I know people were just trying to be funny and bantering and no offense was intended, but it really soured this place to me. I've "internet-known" mito for a long time, longer than this forum has been around and didn't like seeing people's reactions. I'm busy with work at the moment so probably wouldn't be around much anyway, but don't really find myself missing the place.
I disagree, nobody has been that horrible to him that he had to leave. He had a strop for pretty much no reason (unless someone wants to tell me otherwise)? I've said my bit in that I feel that not enough people start threads/discussion being the reason why it's quiet and that being the reason why people lose interest. I myself spend most of my time on the PL board as it's too quiet on here. End of the day this place is what it is and I love the people on here and will be here until the lights go out but if you want to pull a strop and go speak to a bunch of other people then go **** yourself. I've more respect for the people who just leave because they are just not online as much like Bluff and Billie.
I didn't think it was a big deal either at the time, but I was involved in a big project and just skimming the forum at the time so had assumed it was just a joke. I even joked too that I was leaving (because I was going to be involved in a lot of overtime work and wouldn't have time to be distracted) That said, in recollection, I think it was probably more a Chinese water drip torture than a single post. Every typo of his and hastily scrambled comment got bashed for the grammer rather than the content and I suspect the pedantry of it got to him. We do it to several people on here, like Biscan and the gay jokes (I do that too). We assume they take it in stride, etc,and it's banter, and usually it probably is... But it is hard to tell how people are really taking something. When someone does express being annoyed by an action I think it's time to apologise and stop. I don't think anyone here is meaning to offend and piss each other off. I'm pretty sure angering Mito and shooing him off was not the intended outcome.
It is. The last thing we need is for this to turn into a two sided argument with people picking a side. I think if anyone has anything to say just say it. Clear the air without pointing fingers. Just to pick up on something luv said - I believe that people can post when and where they like but I question which came first, posters using the PL board because this board was too quiet or this board going quiet because of the exodus to the PL board. I've joked a few times about telling strangers what you're having for your dinner rather than discussing a transfer rumour, for example, not helping this board 'recover' but there's a chunk of truth in there. It seems some have lost interest in what they originally joined the forum for and that's entirely up to them, no judgement here, but how much more active would this board be with a bit more effort.
None intended. I think the polarised views illustrate both the strengths and the dangers of a no-holds barred approach to the forum.
I know I started using the pl board for silly or fun stuff and the Liverpool board for football stuff because I found the Liverpool board to be less receptive to fun or silly things (and I wouldn't want the Liverpool board to turn into the constantly fighting hot-mess that is the PL board). My main problem with the LFC board is finding the right Dewey decimal system to post a post to the correct thread. Every post has to be in one of several hundred odd page threads rather than start a new one when a new conversation comes up. It prevents creativity and new ideas and discussions coming up.
It's a good point, and one that's crossed my mind before. I don't pretend to know the answer. I joined here to talk about my club, primarily. I'm happy to talk about other clubs, and the world at large when appropriate - and I appreciate a quick-witted exchange when it's done with a good heart. Perhaps I'm wrong about the PL board, but my brief excursions to it seemed to reveal a lot of bitching and not much else.
No, you're not wrong. But it is possible not to get a bitch fight there if you're nice to everyone. I avoid confrontation with most there. What is impossible on the PL board is to talk about football. If you want to talk about football you have to do it here.
I think a lot of times comments have got personal when they didn't/don't need to. It's always better to challenge the opinion not the poster. As Milk said, is Bisc really okay with the gay comments. No doubt he will let us know. Maybe the mods could get together and come up with a forward plan. If the site doesn't already cover issues as mentioned then maybe a few lines could be drawn up that aren't to be crossed, with users agreement.
Just been hearing on news media about hundreds of thousands of students out on strike again re. climate change. I go to the BBC to see how they are reporting it......................nothing ......................WTF?
