For me this is the one area that we still need to address. The rest of the team, no problems. But time and time again we throw games away that we should be winning. I think we still need to sign another top CB Vermaelen and Mertesacker are quality, but we need to rotate and the others just don't seem to be up to the job. I think we'd also benefit from appointing a defensive coach. Tony Adams anyone?
There is no way we are just 1 player away from being where we should be. I think we need 3/4 world class players. or players likely to become world class.
Not sure. I think this team as a whole can make a world class CB look like a donkey. We do not have a defensive structure. We play a high line when our attacking players do not press, we have players that fail to track back, we have a DM that at times goes walkabouts in a game and so on.
Defensive coach needed as well as someone to help the players prepare mentally. That should actually be the coaches job. Another reason why I think Wenger should be give the sack and someone with a knowledge of tactics should be brought in. Sadly he fails to realise that his formally winning brand of football is no longer viable in the current football era. Total overhaul of tactics needed. If this means the dead wood is gotten rid of, then so much the better.
If we played this team: schez Sagna-mert-verm-santos Sick new DFM (M'villa)- song wilshire sick new player-rvp-gerv Then I think we would be fine. OP is right about needing more cb cover though. But I think we need 2 world class starters and 2 qulaity squad players who can start.
Tbh we put in a GREAT defensive displayvs Dortmud...If the defense can consitently play like that we'll be fine Also remember this the Merts 2nd Prem game & Santos 1st game with the club (They need to be settled in) Our shambolic defensive tday was a micture of: Fatigue???, Sagna coming off, New players not being settled in yet, Djourou being an idiot, Blackburn exploiting DJ, Unlucky Own Goals I still think its too early in the season to judge the team. Mid October will be a better time to analyze our team On that note, we need to UP THE TEMPO, PRESS IN MIDFIELD, and IMPROVE ON SET PIECES I think we need a Coach for evry Position and the sub-position (Fullback coach, CB coach, DM coach, etc...)

I don't think we can blame the players. Kossy is an immense defender, 100% tackling records for over a year including the start of his arsenal career tommy v, sagna and merte is obvious.. same with chesny it's the system, coaching, and a mental thing Stick any of the players into any other team and we'd be shouting about how brilliant they are and how we need them i guarantee that
We need (coaching-wise): Attacking(Foward) Coach Winger Coach Attacking Mid. Coach Defensive Mid. Coach General Mid. Coach Fullback Coach Centerback Coach GK Coach
There's Three Big issues here. 1. Tactically Naive. Wenger has always been defensively naive and yes I agree a defensive coach is just what we need. Manchester United and Dortmund both play attacking expansive football yet are hard to break down and the whole team defends and attacks as a Unit. 2.We lack fighters. There's still a nervousness that creeps through the team whenever things get heated. The lack of size and power doesnt help things, but we always react poorly when the game turns physical. The team is EASILY bullied. Wenger has assembled a team purely based on technical ability 3. Lack of strength in depth. Defensively: Vermaelen, Sagna, and Mertesacker are quality. The rest are GARBAGE. Midfield: Wilshere is now by FAR our best midfielder. Without him we're a mid-table side.
