I remember this thread. Sweats goes on tour to Normandy and expects everyone to be slapping him on the back and buying drinks for helping win the war ffs.
No just to have been civil would have been nice. They look at you with utter disdain. I mean how dare we go over there to pay our respects and spend money in their bars and restaurants. Especially considering they have union jacks everywhere.
We've been going to South West France during summer for the last 5 years or so ... never had any problems, very friendly and partulicularly appreciative if you attempt to speak to them in French ...
We tried a little bit of French. I’d never been before so have never spoke it. I kept saying things in Spanish.
That will have gone down well. Maybe next time I’m in Manchester, I will keep saying things in Swedish, see how that goes.
