Will be tough. Thought Williams was good last night and should be good at league 1 level. Ultimately its the defence which is a massive problem. KJ's time is running out. Think they'll give him until Christmas but a loss to Bolton would be telling.
If every Saints fan was honest, they would admit that the first twenty minutes were very uncomfortable viewing, and it felt to me that if you'd scored, then I think you would have gone on and gotten a result. Luck was on our side though (especially with the header that McCarthy saved). After we got the goal, we relaxed a bit more, and it became obvious who the Premier League side were. After the second went in, and for most of the second half, it was like a training match really. Any half-chances you got in the second half were mostly because of misplaced passes by our players and so on. The biggest differences were obviously the finishing (we actually had our shooting boots on tonight, which is rare), and the sharpness (our players just seemed to read the game half a second before your lot, and therefore won most the 50/50s). You were lucky that Redmond only played twenty minutes too. He'd have run your defence absolutely ragged.
I actually disagree. I didn’t feel uncomfortable at any stage. It was the most readable game I’ve ever seen as a Saints fan. Even had they scored at the start, it was entirely untroubling.
Couldn't get out of our half in the first twenty minutes, and on another day one of their chances would have gone in. After that though, yeah, we worked them out fairly easily. I think their attacking play was potentially enough to cause us problems. But their defence was f*cking woeful. Every time we went forward we sliced through them with ease.
Looking at the highlights, we owe McCarthy a huge thanks for keeping the scores level in the first 20 minutes.
I've said already, Gunn is the better prospect but currently i believe McCarthy to be the better keeper.
One of the big boys at home please. Better to plan Man City reserves in 4th round, than their first team in the final.
