Boris has in the past distanced himself from Nige not wanting to set his party too far to the right to alienate the more moderate tories. I still think without his officail backing, there'd be a concensus between them that would knock Corbyn and Swinson sideways - with him on board they'd wipe them out in parliamentary terms.
I don't think the government gave enough explanation as to the why, have listened/relistened to the presentation from Hale and there does not seem to be much substance in the basis of the ruling .. don't get me wrong they have judged on what was presented. An appeal is possible, however it would not come for a while as the basis of the ruling has to be studied ...and we don't yet have that [ it was released 5 minutes after the adjournment]
I don’t think they’ll appeal, not against 11-0 , maybe if it was closer, but not as it was unanimous.
They’ll just block it again like they did last time. They won’t agree to a GE until it’s impossible for Boris to call one at a time that will allow him to get a no deal at the end of Oct
The first judgement in England was that’s its not for the judges to get involved in political affairs, I think that’s right. If the judges are increasingly going to make political judgements it does kind of bring into question who they are , what their political views are and who chooses them. One things for sure they aren’t ordinary people. I think they’re beginning to get into areas they shouldn’t. Brexit is actually Putting a strain on our democracy, or more the refusal of the MPs to carry out the wishes of the referendum is putting a strain on our democracy.
It's so sad to see my birth country in a complete shambles and the politicians must be to blame no matter what colour they wear. If you wish to see how a country should be run then you only have to look to Canada's answer - Ali Baba Trudeau. Why are politicians so stupid???
As the great Billy Connolly once said 'the desire to become a politician should prevent you from ever becoming one' Or something very similar Hear Hear says I !!!!
Just to add a John Lennon comment ~ John Lennon had a stark warning for the public about politicians when he was interviewed at The National Theatre in 1968: “I think our society is run by insane people for insane objectives, and I think that’s what I sussed when I was 16 and 12, way down the line. But, I expressed it differently all through my life. It’s the same thing I’m expressing all the time, but now I can put it into that sentence that I think we’re being run by maniacs for maniacal ends. Time changes nothing.
I see the disease has spread to Labour now - ironically a party full of Remainers led by a genuine Brexiteer - unlike the Tories who are split and being run by a Remainer who switched sides. You couldn’t make it up.
Snap Poll: Vast Majority Want Parliament to Get On With Brexit please log in to view this image A ComRes poll for the Telegraph asked people their view on the statement “Parliament has had plenty of time to debate Brexit and we should just get on with leaving the EU”. 60% just want parliament to get on with it…
So what do you make off this then Rod-puppet's in the EUs pockets. YESTERDAY THE SUPREME COURT GAVE THE VERDICT THAT BORIS JOHNSON’S DECISION TO PROROGUE PARLIAMENT WAS, IN FACT, UNLAWFUL, DESPITE MR JOHNSON, RECEIVING LEGAL ADVICE FROM THE ATTORNEY GENERAL STATING THAT SUSPENDING PARLIAMENT FOR 5 WEEKS WAS LAWFUL. The Prime Minister strongly rejected the decision taken by the judges but said he will respect their decision and the UK’s judicial system. Gina Miller and her team of lawyers led the case against the government. The high court previously stated that Johnson was lawfully suspending parliament. The government could have appealed the decision and taken the matter to the European Courts but decided against this option. In light of the decision taken by the judges, Leave.EU investigated the background of those involved in the decision-making process. Their findings appear to show links between the judges to Tony Blair and the European Union. According to Leave.EU, Lord Reed who was one of the several Supreme Court judges, “served as the President of the EU forum of judges for the environment from 2006-08″ ” “sat as a judge in the European court of human rights.” Lord Sales is alleged “one of Blair’s closet allies” and in the past defended new Labour. Finally, Lord Kerr “ruled against the government in 2017” and sat as an “ad hoc judge on the European courts of human rights” in Strasbourg. Reacting to the findings, voters questioned the impartiality and motives of the judges. One Facebook user said: “Not exactly impartial judges. The outcome was predictable!” another added: “Yes, all in the EU’s pocket! So out of touch though with the British people….” And: “It is now very clearly the ‘establishment’ versus the will of the British people. I hope the determination and will of the majority is strengthened by the court decision.” MPs will return to parliament this morning at 11:30 am, but Prime Minister’s questions will not take place. please log in to view this image The UK is set to leave the EU on the 31st of October and MPs from opposition benches have outright refused to back Boris Johnson’s calls for a general election before this date. Emily Thornberry explained that Labour and opposition MPs do not trust Johnson not to change the election date until after the UK has left the EU, while parliament is suspended for election campaigning, potentially forcing through a no-deal Brexit.
The Judges made their ruling. It went in the face of another ruling. The Governments and the Queens legal advisor is the attorney general - https://news.sky.com/story/exclusiv...torney-general-suspension-was-lawful-11818599 Boris Johnson sought and was provided with legal information from the best source available in the UK.
Former Supreme Court Judge Says the 52% Can’t Have Brexit Former Supreme Court Judge Lord Sumption told the BBC this morning that “52% of the electorate simply cannot have 100% of the spoils, they have to engage with the rest”. Rather letting the cat out of the bag. The referendum was a binary choice, Leave or Remain. If the vote had been to Remain, Britain would not have semi-Brexited, it would have 100% remained in the EU. The British political system is adversarial, very adversarial currently, it usually results in clear outcomes. When a candidate wins a single vote more than their opponents they do get in fact 100% of the spoils. When Tony Blair won just 35% of the vote and 55% of the seats in parliament he still dominated British politics and remade centuries of constitutional order. Creating the Supreme Court for example… https://order-order.com/2019/09/25/former-supreme-court-judge-says-52-cant-brexit/
It's only called democracy when it suits them. A decision goes against them and they don't accept it. A decision against us, we accept it, even if we are pissed off about it. See the deference? I know what side I would chose and I am sure we would be standing side by side in doing so
Boris will seek a GE, which he won't get because Labour don't want one. Why? Because every Labour MP knows they would get hammered. They would come 4th at best in a GE. They are running scared. Labour will instead go for a no confidence in the government and the house will vote for that. There will be a majority for that because the SNP, ChangeUK, Lib Dems and the Greens will all form the majority. Labour being the main opposition will take over to form a new government meaning Corbyn will become the new PM by default. So Labour will cheat their way into power WITHOUT us public having a say on it, because they know they won't win their way to power with a GE. The new government (Labour) will seek a crap deal with the EU. They will then go for anther referendum for us public to vote on and it will have just 2 options: 1) Leave with that new deal. 2) Remain. So no deal won't be an option. And Labour will then campaign along with the SNP, Greens, LibDems and ChangeUK to remain. So the biggest decision to come now will be decided only by remainer MP's, who won't be elected by the public, and they will give us 2 crap options for us to vote for, which doesn't represent the 17.4 million people who won the original referendum. All this in the name of DEMOCRACY!!!! Democracy is dead. Long live democracy. Brexit will not happen. I can promise you this. As a result, bad things will happen. Riots for starters.
Exactly what I've been saying. We shouldn't have to make compromises with brexit with remainers. They lost. If it was the other way around and they had won, they certainly wouldn't have gave us compromises. Yet they still call what they are doing is democracy.
Brexit will not happen. I can promise you this. As a result, bad things will happen. Riots for starters. This is a real possibility as the British people fight for democracy and the vote to leave followed through. A TINDERBOX WAITING TO EXPLODE.
