Just back form ER. Received a nice Centenary Gift Box, which contained not a lot but it's the thought that counts. Guest speakers were Eddie Gray, Mel Sterland and John Newsome. Eddie was particularly regaling with his stories of Bobby Collins, whom he credits with being the catalyst for the successes in the 60/70's. Apparently he was 5ft 3 with size 4 feet and total nutcase on the field. But he knew how to win football matches and passed all that know how onto the young lads. He also said the only reason John Giles signed from you know who was because of Bobby. Do any of you older guys have any match reports still in your head about Bobby Collins ? I'm interested in what specifically he brought to the team and how he effected particular matches rather than just an opinion about how good he was as a player.
Many thanks, a very informative and enjoyable read. Interestingly Eddie also told us that the best player he ever played with was...? Obviously it was a very close decision but ultimately he came down on the side of one particular team mate. Who do you think he chose ?
Matt, I'm a big fan of all of those down to the fruit beer... Probably popular down your neck of the woods though ?
